PHOENIX (AP) -- The suspect in the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords smiled and nodded but didn't speak as he appeared in court Monday and his lawyer provided the 22-year-old's first response to the charges: a plea of not guilty.

Cameras rolled as suspect Jared Loughner allegedly fired all 31 bullets in the clip of his Glock, plus another round that was already in the chamber, at a supermarket in Tucson, Ariz., on Jan. 8. Donated organs from the youngest victim of the Arizona shootings have been used to save the life of another girl. John Green, the father of nine-year-old Christina-Taylor Green, said medical authorities had been in contact to tell him about the transplant. Mr Green said the information had "really lifted" his spirits and that he and his wife were proud of Christina "who has done another amazing thing".
