The largest flag recovered from Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center is on its way to Arizona to be displayed at the funeral of the girl killed in Saturday's shooting spree who was born that day.

In contrast to the Native American blessing to be given at the "Together we Thrive" memorial that Obama will attend, hundreds last night attended a memorial mass for the victims, including Christina.
Prayers for Christina and her family.
This is very nice, but a bit over the top.
But the liberal media will lose their minds over this, so all-in-all I guess that’s a positive
I think the mass was a superb idea.
But using the flag from Ground Zero, I think, is bordering on mawkish. Sorry.
WOW
How fitting...
Tearing up here in Tennessee...
must be all the snow...
But using the flag from Ground Zero, I think, is bordering on mawkish. Sorry.
Agreed. The events (9/11, this child’s murder) are completely unrelated except for the coincidence of occurring on the same day.
This is 100% politicizing this extremely sad situation.
Not at all. As she became older, her parents made her very much aware of how 9/11 was a special day and how she should honor those that died. Her appearance at the Giffords meeting was special as she had just been elected to her school's student council.
But the liberal media will lose their minds over this, so all-in-all I guess thats a positive
Have you seen the schedule for tonight's memorial?? Nothing positive about that -- title is "Together We Thrive" sounds like a Marxist/Red Chinese slogan and it includes a native American blessing, not asking for the blessing of the God of the Bible. Only thing missing is Roseanne Barr singing the National Anthem.
"Together We Politicize the Unthinkable" is more apt.
Mostly I believe there’s way too much “blathering” on all this, the moment of silence, on and on. But on this one I have to bend a little. The little girl was covered with patriotic pins she had collected ... she was “into” the political thing ... elected class pres, attending because it was important to her, etc. I don’t think about CBS or Linbaugh or anything having to do with politicizing this I’m just thinking about her. Would she be proud if she could see that flag displayed in her honor? I think yes. If this is for hype and media attention, to heck with it. But I’d like to think (probably with nievety) this is for her ... and if it is, then it should happen. I can’t put the flag there, but I can support putting it there ... for her. What a loss. (Prayers)
Will we now fly that flag at all funerals for children born on 911?
Will we also fly that flag at the funerals of our fallen military?
My heart is broken for that little girl and her family. But, this just looks like one more Obama political move.
Perhaps it shouldn’t matter to me as unlike her parents, I will not be forced to live with this horrible loss for the rest of my life. I hope that flying this flag somehow helps them, but I still see this as nothing more than an Obama trinket.... Political Bling.
They also want to label this “domestic terrorism”, and by having the Ground Zero flag there that helps make the connection and their point.
“They feel honored to have this because it was special to Christina: ‘I was born on this day, I was something good that came into the world.’ “
Just for the ones gunned down by 9/11 Truthers.
It’s a horrid shame it will be in close proximity to Obama.
The flag will be displayed at her funeral tomorrow, the one that the Phelps nutters were originally going to picket. Obama will have done his version of the Wellstone memorial and will be long gone back to DC.
A little more from the AZ article: The flag is displayed around the country when appropriate and the family is reported to be “delighted” since the day had such significance for her. A NYC Fireman, representing the “New York Says Thank You Foundation” is bringing it to Tucson
Thanks CedarDave.
Stop with what the family and slain child wanted. Don’t you know there are FReepers who are against it? /sar
Sometimes I wonder about how this board has transformed over my 6.5 years of posting, and 9 years overall, including lurking.
I can completely understand the attachment that even such a young child can have to a birth date. I was born on July 4th, and as long as I can remember, I’ve been more connected to that date than most people that I have met are connected to their own birth date. Reading about this amazing child really gives me hope for the future. Her parents educated her about the events on the day of her birth, and it appears that even at a young age, Christine was doing her best to make her life a positive example for the date 9/11/01.
By no means do I have such a tragic birthday, but it has inspired me in my life to try and live my life with a full love of my country. I’ve even gone so far to have it put in my will, and discussed it with my wife and brother, that should I go, I’d like some fireworks after my service, and I would like God Bless America to be performed at it.
