The Newport Beach, California-based fast-casual chain announced on Monday that it is expanding into Mexico in a partnership with Alsea, a leading restaurant operator in Latin America and Europe. Chipotle will attempt to succeed where other U.S.-based Mexican food chains have failed. Taco Bell famously tried twice to expand into Mexico, first in the 1990s and again in the mid-2000s, only to see its last Mexico location close in 2010. Taco Bell’s inability to gain traction in Mexico was chalked up to pricing issues and a perceived lack of authenticity, including menu items that didn’t translate especially well.

Kevin Hart’s chain of vegan restaurants in California abruptly closed all four of its locations Tuesday, Eater Los Angeles reported. Hart House promoted a vegan lifestyle that Hart adopted in 2020 while also attempting to provide meals for under $8, according to Eater Los Angeles. Officers arrived to the scene of the reported assault Monday afternoon, and located the suspect, assistant manager of the location, Jaqueennia Loyd. Chipotle restaurants in California have introduced two robots to replace human workers in an effort to slash labor costs in response to the state-mandated $20 minimum wage. Authorities have identified two suspects who attacked a Chipotle employee in South Carolina after being told that extra chicken would raise the price of their meal. Two women are wanted for assault in Maryland after throwing food and a chair at a worker inside a Chipotle restaurant, authorities said Wednesday. The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the Chipotle in the 900 block of Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring, the Montgomery County Police Department said. The female suspects were seen on surveillance video inside the restaurant while conversing with an employee at the counter. The suspects then turned to walk away as the video cut to another angle showing the women speaking with a worker near the tables.

A New York porch pirate targeted homes in broad daylight under the guise of delivering food as she canvassed residential neighborhoods for her next target, police said. Juliana Saggaram, 33, of East Elmhurst, Queens was arrested Wednesday after she used her position as a DoorDash driver to freely approach two homes and swipe packages. Chipotle is closing a Maine store that had been leading efforts to unionize the chain. Employees at the Augusta, Maine, Chipotle filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board in June asking to hold a union election at the store. It was the first of the Mexican food chain’s stores to file such a petition, according to NLRB filings. The NLRB had scheduled a hearing Tuesday on Chipotle’s objections to the union election.
