I need your help FReepers. I work in the same building that houses one of Chet Edwards offices. The Young Conservatives of Texas have a U-Haul van parked out front. It has been decorated as Chet's Moving Team. However, I have taken pictures (priceless) on a personal camera and I have no idea how to post them here. Any help here would be much appreciated. Thanks, in advance.

This being the most politically charged election cycle in my recent memory, I would think that long term sitting Representatives, in danger of loosing their seats, would be on the national radar. Chet Edwards (D) has been the TX CD 17 Rep. for 5 terms now. He is on Pelosi's pet list. He touts his responsibilty for appropriating funds for the VA. He was even on Zero's short list of VP choices. He has strong opposition in this race and is in danger of loosing his job. Sure Bill Flores has history, some good and some bad. But in the...

North Texas rarely is viewed as a national battleground in the fight for control of Congress, but two of the hottest races in the country are in the region. That's because two Democratic incumbents long considered relatively safe -- U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Dallas and U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards of Waco -- are now considered vulnerable as Republicans seek to wrest control of Congress from the Democrats. Johnson is facing Dallas Pastor Stephen Broden, and Bryan oil and gas executive retiree Bill Flores is challenging Edwards. Broden recently made national news by picking up an endorsement from former...

Poll: Flores 55% to Edwards 36% Shows Flores’ Message Resonating, Edwards’ Negative Attacks Have Failed Texas Insider Report: BRYAN, Texas – A new general election poll of 400 likely voters taken by On Message, Inc. shows Republican nominee Bill Flores leading 20-year incumbent Democrat Congressman Chet Edwards (D-TX) by a margin of 55% to 36% with less than 6 weeks to go before Election Day. “We are very encouraged by the results of this poll and we will work harder than ever to bring home a victory over the next 40 days,” said Flores. “This poll is yet another reflection...
  • Texas Democrat Running Away from Obama and Pelosi in New Ad – Video

Here is video of a new ad by Democrat Rep. Chet Edwards, who is trying to hang onto his Texas CD-17 seat by running away from President Obama and Nancy Pelosi. This ad is a striking example of how Democrats are trying to pass themselves off as conservatives to stave off defeat in November. Republicans must keep hammering home the fact that a vote for ANY Democrat IS a vote for the radical Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda. If returned to Washington, Dems like Edwards will enable them to continue their radical work.

NRA chooses Edwards in Texas By: Kasie Hunt August 9, 2010 06:57 PM EDT Texas Rep. Chet Edwards is the latest endangered Democrat to win a critical conservative credential: an endorsement from the National Rifle Association. Edwards’s campaign announced he had received the pro-gun rights organization’s backing on Monday. "I cannot imagine any candidate in our district who would not want the endorsement of the NRA Victory Fund, which is by far the largest gun rights organization in the country,” Edwards spokesman Megan Jacobs said in a statement. Edwards is facing self-funded businessman Bill Flores, who has attacked him for...

President Barack Obama is coming to Texas next week, but you won’t see him in Rep. Chet Edwards’ congressional district, one of the most Republican-leaning districts represented by a Democrat in the country. But Monday, Edwards’ Republican opponent sought to link the two men, challenging Edwards to stage a public event with Obama, whom Edwards endorsed while the president was taking on Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2008 primaries. A press release issued Monday by Bryan Republican Bill Flores challenged Edwards to “hold a public town hall with President Obama in the 17th (Congressional) District.” Obama is not scheduled for...

Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, announced Monday afternoon that he will vote against the Senate’s version of health care insurance legislation when it comes up for a vote expected for late this week in the U.S. House. Edwards voted against the House’s version of health care legislation in November, and some local Democrats and labor groups had expressed hope he would be more amenable to the less expensive and less expansive Senate version. But Edwards made it clear in a conference call with reporters that his vote would not change. He also voted during a Monday afternoon committee meeting against a...

WASHINGTON -- Once again, it will be a "no" from Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, on healthcare as congressional Democrats scramble for every critical vote."If the question is whether I would vote for the comprehensive health care bill currently being considered, the answer is 'no,'" Edwards said in a statement to the Star-Telegram. "After listening to my constituents, I voted 'no' on the House bill last year, and I will vote 'no' on the Senate bill this year if it comes up for a vote."Edwards faces the same kind of pressure he did in November, when he broke ranks with most...

Last year brought a number of significant political developments. The Democratic Party made gains on the federal level, taking control of the White House, U.S. House and U.S. Senate for the first time since 1995. But efforts to overhaul the health care system, rein in carbon emissions and jump-start the country’s shaky economy have cast an increasingly bright spotlight on moderates in the party such as U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, of Waco, whom Republicans see as vulnerable in the 2010 elections. Edwards reflected on 2009 in an interview a few days after the House session wrapped up, giving Congress mixed...

U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, expanded his fundraising edge over six Republican primary challengers, reporting late Friday that he raked in more than $450,000 during the past three months. Republican small-businessman Rob Curnock raised nearly $56,000 during the same three-month period ending Sept. 30. That left Curnock with $42,557 on hand to spend. Chuck Wilson, a former CIA case officer from Waco, trailed Curnock, having taken in more than $39,000 in the period. A third GOP challenger, Dave McIntyre, a retired Army colonel and national security expert from College Station, raised more than $23,000. Timothy Delasandro and J.W. Autem’s fundraising...

February 29, 2008 -- Austin, TX - U.S. Senator Barack Obama was joined by Congressman Chet Edwards (TX-17) in Houston this morning for a town hall meeting with area veterans. Obama discussed his track record of fighting for veterans in the U.S. Senate and pledged that, as President, he will ensure that veterans are treated with the dignity and respect they have earned. "America enters into a sacred trust with every single person who puts on the uniform," Obama said. "That trust is simple: America will be there for you, just as you have been there for America. Keeping that...

WACO (August 29, 2009)—Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, held the second of three face-to-face town hall meetings Saturday in Waco on the controversial and complex health care reform bill now before the U.S. House, telling the crowd of about 1,200, “Doing nothing is not a long-term option.” “I consider health care to be one of the most important issues any Congress will face,” Edwards said, promising to spend “countless hours” analyzing the legislation and to listen to views of residents of the district “from all walks of life.” Edwards initially planned only to hold a district-wide telephone town hall meeting, but...

Some residents are angry that U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, plans no face-to-face town hall meeting with his constituents in August to discuss proposed health care reform. Edwards instead will hold a “telephone town hall” in which he will field questions by phone from people in his 12-county district. A date for that session has not yet been determined. A handful of town hall meetings elsewhere around the country have been dubbed “town halls gone wild” because they became heated or raucous, with crowds shouting down the speakers. U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett held a town hall session last weekend in...
