Why is Texas CD 17 left out? (Vanity)
N/A | October 26, 2010 | TexasPatriot1

This being the most politically charged election cycle in my recent memory, I would think that long term sitting Representatives, in danger of loosing their seats, would be on the national radar.

Chet Edwards (D) has been the TX CD 17 Rep. for 5 terms now. He is on Pelosi's pet list. He touts his responsibilty for appropriating funds for the VA. He was even on Zero's short list of VP choices.

He has strong opposition in this race and is in danger of loosing his job. Sure Bill Flores has history, some good and some bad. But in the race for this district, he is the most conservative candidate to run against Chet since he took office.

In the Waco area, we are inundated by commercials from both camps, ad nausium. We recently heard that the DNC has pulled all contributions to the Edwards campaign. Strangely enough, this is the only news, on any level, that we have heard about this race.

Chet has a stronghold on CD 17 (supporters keep his signs up year round, not just during election season). But he will be unemployed come November 3rd.

With this information in mind, why have we not heard anything about this race in the media? The only polls we have access too are the internal polls of both camps. Of course those numbers are skewed. Chet's poll shows that he has a lead, and the same is true for Bill. But there are no other polls.

And don't even try it. I have already googled it. I have checked Rasmussen, Gallup and a variety of other poll watchers. We are 2 weeks into early voting which is set to end this Friday. Still no information on who is leading.

I would think that this race would be one of the fore-runners in the national media, but I can't even get poll results in the local paper.

What gives? Does anyone out there have a poll source for this race?

So, when I checked that this morning, that article didn’t come up. And there is still no clear numbers.
Flores is up by 4%, 10% 23% etc, etc, etc.
Edwards is up by 2%, 5%, 6% etc, etc, etc.
I don’t know...
I thought this would have gained more national attention than it has.
Internal polling doesn’t do it for me.

The Dems pulled out. He was one of the first that they abandoned in their ‘triage’. He’s done.

But pretend he’s not and get as many people as you can to the polls to make sure. :)

Geraghty posted that on his Campaign Spot blog yesterday, and a while back he had another one titled “Goodnight, Chet,” a takeoff on the old Huntley-Brinkley signoff.

You’re not hearing too much about it because Edwards is toast.

RealClear Politics has polls.

The same can be said of TX House District 25 held for 16 years by the" honorable " wild-eyed liberal, Lloyd Doggett.

He's got a very conservative opponent this time around, and she probably doesn't have a chance because she can't get enough attention from anyone--even the Tea Party Express rejected backing her because they said she doesn't have a chance.

Well, hello! If she can't get any backing, then it's fair to say that she doesn't have a chance!

If anyone wants to take a look at her, her name is Dr. Donna Campbell (she's an ER MD), and her website is" www.Drdonnaforcongress.com

Oh, my situation is so different. My friends and colleagues are already voting Flores. My in-laws however...
They are best friends with the ex-mayor of our small little town.
He would vote for anyone sporting a (D) behind their name.
He is very influential in our town and has infiltrated the minds of people who used to think for themselves.
Very sad story.

I have a feeling that Chet will have to un-@ss the CD 17 seat.
I just wish there was more reporting on it to quell the uneasy tension I have about it.

Oh, I told them that voting day was the second Tuesday in November.

They bought it. We're all good here.

The lack of information drives me nuts..I finally early voted to help with my frustration..
I check Real Politics regularly for a poll..google , too.
I push the mute button on Chet’s ads.

I met Chet a few weeks ago. I will post the story if you are interested.
Teaser: There is no doubt in his mind how I feel about him,
nor is there any from the other constituents who were around him at that time.

Race Republican Democrat Others Pollster Dates MoE

House 17 Flores 46% Edwards 42% Kelly 1% Bennett, Petts & Normington (D) 10/4-5/10 4.9%
Flores 55% Edwards 36% OnMessage Inc. (R) 9/19-20/10 4.9%
Flores 48% Edwards 38% Kelly 2% Bennett, Petts & Normington (D) 9/13-14/10 4.9%
Flores 53% Edwards 41% OnMessage Inc. (R) 5/2-3/10 4.9%
Republican 51% Democrat 27%

That the latest poll is a Dem poll encourages me..but barely. Look at the change in the numbers from earlier polls.
Looking at the margin of error..It’s a dead heat.
Once again it is not an independent polling firm.
I want to win this one so much!!

Background: The ex-mayor of my current township is really good friends with Chet.
The ex-mayor is also really good friends with my in-laws.
Ipso facto, my wifes family is good friends with Chet.
However, he does not know me or my wife.
Scene: The town had a fair close to downtown.
It was a dreary fall day. Quite a few people were about, despite it.
My wife owns a tumbling school in said town. The students were putting on a demonstration as a way of free advertising.
Incident: As we were packing up our gear (mats, pads and so forth) I look up to see the ex-mayor and Chet walking around, glad-handing the citizenry.
We continue packing the truck to get our equipment back to the school.
As it happens, I had to sit in the bed of the truck to keep one of the mats from rolling out.
My wife is driving. We are trying really hard to get out of the way of the next demonstration.
Well, the ex-mayor felt it necessary to block our exit.
Dialouge:
Ex-mayor: “Congressman, I want you to meet this girl right here. We pray for her every day. We pray that she will wake up and see the light.”
Wife: (obligitory hand shake) “Nice to meet you”
Ex-mayor: (looking at me) “Now this guy right here..... This guy right here.....”
Me: (finishing his sentence).... Is a constitutional conservative, and as far as you are concerned, (turning my gaze to Chet) I am a lost cause. I’ll be voting you out, sir.”
Crowd: (clapping and agreeing, with me, all around him)

End: As this is going on, my wife finds an open hole in the traffic and drives away. I sit in the back of the truck and wave at both.

Just to make my dinner conversation with the in-laws more interesting.
