Charter Communications has agreed to merge with Cox Communications in a $34.5 billion deal that will combine two of the top three cable companies in the U.S. Cox is the third-largest cable television company in the country, with more than 6.5 million digital cable, internet, telephone, and home security customers. It has a strong foothold in states spanning from California to Virginia. Charter Communications, known more widely as Spectrum, has more than 32 million customers in 41 states. The cable industry has been under assault for years from streaming services like Disney, Netflix, Amazon and HBO Max, as well as...
  • Any other Charter Communication cable customers find this a little irritating?

I am a Charter Communications cable customer in California and recently was “upgraded” to all digital TV. A feature of the Charter cable service had been to “power on” the receiver with the channel of your preference. Mine was Fox News. After the conversion to “all digital” TV, the ability to make a selection of the “power on” channel was eliminated from the receiver menu. The receiver would “power on” to a Charter informational channel with the skinny Charter girl telling you about the wonderful things you were in store for with Charter “all digital’ TV. I was wishing that...

My Charter Communications cable television went out about 3 hours ago. I know, boohoo you say :) I agree but I was interested in the FedEx Cup golf I had DVRed. It went black and I soon discovered the entire cable feed was off. I called Charter and the rep asked do I live in Georgia. Yes, I reply. He says there is a big problem and it's out for the entire state of Georgia. No estimate to get it back on but "repair crews had been dispatched." groan.... I searched bing, google and the local news site but no...

Charter Communications Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Friday in an effort to reduce its debt by $8 billion. The cable giant is working toward getting its restructuring plan confirmed in August so it can emerge from bankruptcy later that month or early September, according to sources close to the process. Charter appointed attorney Gregory Doody as its chief restructuring officer to oversee the financial restructuring process and minimize the impact on day-to-day operations. Charter had recently hired Doody as a turnaround specialist and adviser. Doody previously led successful in-court and out-of-court restructurings, including at Calpine Corp., a San Jose,...

ST. LOUIS -- A former Charter Communications Inc. executive sentenced last week to probation in a plot to dupe investors through fraudulent cable television disconnect practices said in a court document that Charter Chairman Paul Allen was aware of the scheme. Former Charter Vice President James "Trey" Smith III on Wednesday filed a counterclaim against the suburban St. Louis company in a dispute over legal fees related to the accounting scandal involving the nation's third-largest cable TV company. Smith was among four ex-executives sentenced April 22 in federal court in St. Louis, where he received two years of probation...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Four former executives of Charter Communications have been indicted on fraud charges related to inflating the cable operator's revenue, operating cash flow and subscriber count numbers, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday. Charter Chief Executive Carl Vogel said the indictments should not impact the "company's ability to execute its operating plan going forward" and that neither the company nor its current directors were the target of the inquiry. Former Chief Financial Officer Kent Kalkwarf and former Chief Operating Officer David Barford were charged with trying to boost the company's revenue and operating cash flow results...
