Any other Charter Communication cable customers find this a little irritating?
self

I am a Charter Communications cable customer in California and recently was “upgraded” to all digital TV. A feature of the Charter cable service had been to “power on” the receiver with the channel of your preference. Mine was Fox News. After the conversion to “all digital” TV, the ability to make a selection of the “power on” channel was eliminated from the receiver menu. The receiver would “power on” to a Charter informational channel with the skinny Charter girl telling you about the wonderful things you were in store for with Charter “all digital’ TV. I was wishing that Charter would soon bring back my ability to choose my preferred” power on” channel via the menu selected item as was previously available. This morning, my wish was granted and the receiver was now receiving a channel besides the skinny Charter girl channel when powered on. I looked in the receiver menu and lo and behold there was the”power on” channel preference. Now ,for some reason, out of all the channels for those rat b*st**ds at Charter to choose as the default channel, was MSNBC. I checked my other receivers and they all powered on with the default channel as MSNBC. Now before people start telling me that I can simply change the “power on” channel to one of my choosing, obviously I am taking the time to make a point. IMHO, this is another in your face example of a letting ideology trump common sense business practice. About 3 people watch MSNBC at one time. I know that Charter Communications was purchased some time back by one of the Microsoft big wigs, so maybe this explains the choice. As a benefit to “all digital” TV, I am treated to an increase in my cable bill because now I have to rent a receiver for each TV. I have already stopped shopping at Costco and cancelled my membership because of the “cute tricks” I think everyone has heard about regarding Dinesh D’Souza’s new book. Ok. I feel better now.

Went through the same thing with charter here in Wisconsin. Got a bunch of cheap cable boxes at $5/mo each. Just a reason to charge more money. The channels change slow too. But when I turn it on, it’s on whatever channel I had it on before.

OK. I feel better now.

Charter Communications Inc. President and CEO Tom Rutledge received a salary of $1.8 million last year, along with $3.3 million in non-equity incentive plan compensation and $225,510 in all other compensation for total compensation of $5.3 million.

I think you should stay mad.

As soon as you have the option to switch to Verizon Fios do it.

I don’t know what their politics are but their quality and service put all other cable companies to shame.

Oh go blow.

It was a jest and it wasn’t directed to you.

If you want to run around trying to convince persuade people that Charter is a great company, and that Tom Rutledge is a great and visionary CEO, don’t lose your nerve because of me.

All incentive plans need to be ditched. Sometimes the metrics are so poorly considered that CEO’s and senior executives can manipulate the books and stock prices to make sure they meet them.

Negative affirmation voting by shareholders needs to be changed.

Charter is the only cable provider in many places.

Imagine Obama running that company, and you understand how Charter operates.

Limited choices. Bundle price jumps (then NO negotiating, you have to quit and sign up again). Crappy Customer Service. No more basic cable. Crappy box performance (sound loss, guide freezeups, limited DVR).

I quit their TV (got a good antenna setup & internet options) and phone (got a $50 voip box and $3/month service), reduced monthly bill by $180, paid for new hardware.

Anyone remember Sen. John McCain saying he was going after cable companies to offer a la carte and keep prices down ten or so years ago? How about you actually do something to HELP US, Sen. McCain?
