Charter cable television out in entire state of Georgia

My Charter Communications cable television went out about 3 hours ago. I know, boohoo you say :) I agree but I was interested in the FedEx Cup golf I had DVRed. It went black and I soon discovered the entire cable feed was off.
I called Charter and the rep asked do I live in Georgia. Yes, I reply. He says there is a big problem and it's out for the entire state of Georgia. No estimate to get it back on but "repair crews had been dispatched." groan....
I searched bing, google and the local news site but no news article about the outage was found.

Idle speculation: There have been plenty of instances of hacker mischief happening lately. Could this cable TV incident be a target of opportunity? Infrastructure is infrastructure and sooner or later the terrorists, foreign nationals or homegrown hackers might manage to disrupt something that matters. Power, water, banking, communications....
I know....I should get the Dish, right?

Interestingly enough, our power flickered at 3pm this afternoon.
We live 2 states to the west.

My Internet through my cable (Cox) has been intermittent and glitchy for about 5 days now.
I don’t know whether it is the local office having trouble or Cox in general or a problem with the overall Internet. Someone posted a comment in a thread a couple of days ago that the US Internet was being hit from foreign hackers.
