Contact: (916) 210-6000, agpressoffice@doj.ca.gov SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today sent a letter to members of Congress with an update on California’s implementation of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). In the letter, the Attorney General urged Congress to use federal legislation to build on rather than preempt the consumer rights and privacy protections made possible by the CCPA or other state law. Attorney General Becerra further emphasized that Congress should provide consumers with greater enforcement power and be a partner to the states in the work of protecting consumer privacy.“I invite Congress to look to the states as...

Mozilla, maker of the Firefox web browser, says it's giving all users more control of their own data. The change is spurred by the California Consumer Privacy Act, or CCPA, which went into effect Wednesday. The new data privacy law gives California residents the right to know what personal data tech companies collect. It also enables people to ask companies to delete their data and not sell it. Mozilla said changes it's making under the CCPA will apply to every Firefox user, not just those in California. In a blog post Tuesday, Mozilla said it'll give Firefox users the option...

“It’s possible that Rome may betray us,” said Fr Dong, before he said Mass in the city of Shijiazhuang in Hebei province. “If this happens, I will resign. I won’t join a Church which is controlled by the Communist Party. “We are suffering like Jesus on the cross. We fight for religious freedom and follow the Gospel – but we are not supported by either Rome or China.”

HLI Encourages Passage of Bill Protecting Minor GirlsFRONT ROYAL, Virginia, Sept. 26 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, president of Human Life International, issued the following statement regarding the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (CIANA), H.R. 748, and its Senate companion bill S.403, the Child Custody Protection Act (CCPA): “At issue in today’s debate is Senate Democrats continued meddling in the efforts of the U.S. House to protect young girls from sexual abuse and exploitation. “The House has consistently passed its interstate abortion notification bill, which would impose criminal penalties on any adult who transports a minor girl...

Ken Chase criticized Senator Kennedy for voting against the Child Custody Protection Act, which passed the Senate July 25th by over 30 votes. It even received the yes votes of 13 Democrats. "Clearly, Ted Kennedy is on the far-left on this issue, unwilling to do anything that might upset the radical pro-abortion lobby, including voting for a common-sense bill like the Child Custody Protection Act, which would simply ensure that those who help teens go behind their parents' back are punished. It's time for Massachusetts to get a Senator who votes for common sense, not special interests".

There stands Planned Parenthood, right behind Senate Democrat leaders, whispering seductively in their collective ear the promise of lots of votes and lots of cash. That's an interesting looking wallet Planned Parenthood has. Oh, baby skin. Of course. The addiction to power is arguably the most powerful addiction. This is obviously what's behind the Democrats' obstruction to the Child Custody Protection Act, which would stop non-parents from trafficking minor girls for abortions from states with parental notification laws to states without them. CCPA would also rescue girls from incestuous households by eliminating the loophole around state parental notification laws that...

Blocked Internet Discussion of New Pope WASHINGTON, October 19, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Congressional-Executive Commission on China released its 2005 Annual Report last week, which detailed a myriad of deplorable human rights abuses routinely committed by the Chinese regime. The Commission, created by Congress in October 2000 with the legislative mandate to monitor human rights and the development of the rule of law in China, reports that "The Chinese government monitors and inspects registered seminaries, where it is forbidden to teach anything contrary to Party policy, including Catholic moral teaching on abortion, euthanasia, contraception, and divorce." Released on October 11,...

I am trying to write about the Child Custody Protection Act. Using the archives of the National Right to Life Committee I have been able to track it back to 1998, but I cannot get information on any earlier legislation. As usual, when in trouble, I come to Free Republic. Does anybody know the earliest date that the CCPA was presented in Congress? Any voting records (prior to 1998), particularly Kerry's (as if I had any doubt!)? Thanks.

Beijing (AsiaNews) - A representative of the Religious Affairs Office (RAO) claims that Bishop Zhao Zhengdong was not arrested, denying the accusations made by the Vatican the previous day. But AsiaNews sources have stated that a campaign is underway to force all bishops of the unofficial Church to subject themselves to the Communist Party and to break ties with the Pope. Liu Yongqing, member of the RAO said yesterday that "Mr. Zhao Zhengdong was not arrested" and explained that "our offices organizes courses for local clergy that teach our religious policy. This course began at the end of May and...
