Former President Barack Obama once wrote that he fantasized about having sexual relations with other men, biographer David Garrow said in an interview published on Wednesday. The former president expressed his fantasies in a letter to a girlfriend at the time, Garrow told Tablet magazine in the interview. That letter has been redacted and is currently in the possession of Emory University, according to Garrow.

MEXICO CITY - Authorities on Wednesday announced the capture of a purported drug cartel leader, the first major drug arrest under the administration of President Felipe Calderon, who has pledged a nationwide war against the drug trade. Pedro Diaz Parada was arrested in the country's southern state of Oaxaca on Tuesday and taken to Mexico City. He faces charges of organized crime and drug trafficking, the attorney general's office said in a news release. Prosecutors say Diaz Parada founded the cartel named after him in Mexico's southeastern region. Federal police and soldiers stopped the sport utility vehicle in which Diaz...

The 9-month-old, left alone by young babysitters, was dangling from a railing before losing her grip. The baby girl's tiny hand was wrapped around the third-floor railing of a Denver condominium complex, her feet dangling over the sidewalk below. Mary Bussey and her son Brandon, who were on their way to his football game Saturday afternoon, saw the baby hovering above their heads. The 9-month-old girl was crying, left alone while she was supposed to be in the care of her 13- and 10-year-old uncles, Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said Sunday. The baby's teenage mother left the girl with...

BAGHDAD, June 14, 2006 – President Bush's surprise visit to Baghdad yesterday caught the troops here unawares. But most were thrilled their commander in chief made the perilous trip. Bush visited Baghdad to congratulate Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Iraq's new government and to thank the troops for their hard work and dedication. "Baghdad and Iraq is a front in the war on terror. It is a part of our mission to help make sure that the world is a better place. Using data from ESA's XMM-Newton X-ray observatory, an international group of astrophysicists has discovered a spinning neutron star that seems to be tumbling slowly - a find that could provide new insight into the evolution and structure of these super-dense objects. Spinning neutron stars, also known as pulsars, generally rotate on highly stable axes. Thanks to their periodic signals, emitted either in radio or X-ray wavelengths, they can serve as very accurate astronomical clocks. Regarding pulsar RX J0720.4-3125, however, the team found that over the past four and a half years, its temperature has been rising - until very recently,...

The War on Drugs has now been extended to the counter of your local pharmacy. Buried in the Patriot Act renewal bill that passed this week are provisions that would impose new restrictions on purchasing medicines that contain pseudoephedrine. Many cold and allergy medications contain the chemical pseudoephedrine which is used to as an ingredient to manufacture methamphetamine. In typical, heavy-handed fashion, Congress is placing limits on how much medicine containing pseudoephedrine one person can buy during a given time period. The purchase limits would go into effect 30 days after the president signs the bill. A person would be...

Residents are up in arms over a push by the Education Department to open a school next door to a popular Bay Ridge shooting range. The school, proposed inside the recently shuttered Fortway Theater on Fort Hamilton Parkway, would bring about 440 students within earshot of the 40-year-old Alpine Arms shooting range - an FBI and NYPD favorite. "We're trying to get children away from guns, not near them," said Donna Sbordone, a mother of three who lives three blocks from the 67th St. site. "It's just not a good place for a school."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Unaware that a live microphone was broadcasting their words around the Capitol, Assembly Democrats meeting behind closed doors debated prolonging California's budget crisis for political gain. Members of the coalition of liberal Democrats talked about slowing progress on the budget as a means of increasing pressure on Republicans. A microphone had been left on during the closed meeting Monday, and the conversation was transmitted to about 500 "squawk boxes" that enable staff members, lobbyists and reporters to listen in on legislative meetings. Some members of the group, including Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg, said if the budget crisis were...

The PA reports that it thwarted an actual suicide attack in the making. The report states that an 18-year-old girl left a parting note to her family, saying that she was on her way to perpetrate a suicide attack against Israelis. The family then called the PA police, the account continues, which found the girl at the Karni Checkpoint after a hunt of a few hours, as well as her explosives belt. Israel relates "with caution" to the story, but says that it "appears accurate." Barely had the IDF given the above evaluation when Reuters reported that the PA had...
