  • How the Democrats could save the world

In a nutshell, we need a Democrat Trump-clone. Presently, the Democrats will do anything to achieve open borders. This is because they have become much too radical for traditional Democrats to support them. So they need a new population of dependents from whom they can buy votes. But suppose some wealthy, non-politician Democrat announced his candidacy for president. Suppose he held old-school Democratic values. For example, suppose he supported secure borders, build the wall, and America first. Naturally, the party leadership would hate him, just as the Republican leadership hated Trump. But 'normal' Democrat voters would love him and he...
  • Is the Trump/Russia investigation unconstitutional?

I'm sorry this is a long post, but I tried to tie many things together related to the Trump/Russia investigations, the WikiLeaks, the Seth Rich murder, and the apparent corruption that ties all of it into one bundle. Anyway, please correct me where I'm wrong. Suppose you were driving down the street. Your car was in perfect working order and you did not break any traffic laws, but a policeman still pulls you over. You ask why he pulled you over. He doesn't answer. Instead he asks you to get out of the car and to open your trunk. After...
  • If WE advised Trump...

    10/13/2016 12:57:48 PM PDT · by pjd · 48 replies
I know Trump must have a lot of professionals advising his campaign, but much of the appeal of Trump is that he is like us. Rich, but like us. I hope that his staff reads FR, and since there are a lot of smart people here that are more middle America, we could probably give Trump some excellent advice that would resonate with middle-America. So that's the idea here. Assuming Trumps staff is lurking here, what advice would you give?
  • Commemorating the Benghazi Failure

I had a simple dream last night. In fact, it was so simple, it didn't have a location, it didn't have people, it didn't even have any action. It was just a feeling. A dream about a feeling, pure and simple. Naturally, I awoke from this dream with...a feeling. A powerful, wonderful feeling that I can only describe as invincibility. However, 'invincibility' was not what my dream was about. Instead, the feeling in my dream was about 'knowing'. It was about knowing that someone - my partner, my team, whoever - but someone had my back. Without question, without doubt,...
  • Not what you'd expect from Woody Allen

    08/07/2012 8:16:43 AM PDT · by pjd · 42 replies
The latest Woody Allen movie is so much not what you would expect from Woody Allen, I have to post this little commentary. I don't know if he suddenly had an epiphany or something, but I was totally blown away. Heavy spoilers follow... Ok, early on he starts criticizing his daughter's new Italian boyfriend whom he refers to as a Communist because he is a pro-bono lawyer, union supporter, etc. Woody's movie-wife says that he used to be like that. He says, "Yeah, when I was younger, but I was never a Communist. I don't even like to share a...
  • Is global warming caused by human activity?

I wrote this about six months ago, but never posted it. The version I've posted here doesn't have images. A link to an html version with images is here and a PDF version of the article is hereEnjoy. Is global warming caused by human activity? Paul Drallos, Ph.D. (Physics) A great number of facts and declarations are often presented with regard to global warming and Mankind's role in it. Most of these assertions are derived from the following clear and simple line of reasoning: Fact:   CO2 is a greenhouse gas whose presence in the atmosphere can cause Earth's temperature...
  • Obama Troubling

Sorry this is a long vanity, but you might find some useful ammunition in it. Troubling In politics, as in most other things, the truth is important. However, in political campaigns, the truth is often a very elusive object. This is because political campaigns are, essentially, little more than the construction of an image which, most importantly, is an image of what the campaign thinks is what the people want to see. For this reason, political rhetoric and campaign promises are, at best, unreliable indicators of who a candidate is. Talk is cheap. Image is illusory and you cannot measure...
  • Philip K dick anti-abortion story

The Golden Man, Berkley Publishing Corp. | October 1974 | Philip K dick
The following is an old story (1974) but probably not very well-known. I came upon it recently, by chance, because of the upcoming release of the new movie 'Next' which is based on a Philip K. Dick short story called 'The Golden Man'. Although I'm a big fan of PKD, I had not read The Golden Man and wanted to check it out before the movie opened. The few collections of PKD short stories I have did not contain The Golden Man, so I found a collection entitled The Golden Man that was published in 1980. This collection, of course,...

  • Sometimes public schools get it right

    11/10/2005 1:59:20 PM PST · by pjd · 34 replies · 1,430+ views
My daughter attends public school in Berkley, Michigan. Today, she came home today with a U.S. Marines T-shirt. She won it in her Social Studies class. 'How did that happen?' I asked. She expalined that they had a special guest in their class today. It was her teacher's brother who is a Marine Sgt. with 9 years in the Core. I think he was there to commerate the 230 birthday today of the Marines. His main topic was about 'What's REALLY going on in Iraq.' He started off by saying something like, 'I don't want to tell you that the...
  • Moratorium on donations to Republicans

I am sick and tired of our so-called Republican leadership. I can't tell you how many calls I get every d*mned day from a whole alphabet soup of Republican organizations. What is this? They get paid, don't they? They have more money than I do for g*d's sake. Why do they have to call me (and you) every day and ask for money? We voted them into the White House. We voted them into a clear majority in the House. And we voted them into a majority in the Senate. What's wrong with these people? Why don't they just do...
  • New Star Wars preview

I did a search and didn't see this, so I figured I would post it. Saw The Incredibles tonight (very cool movie) but was surprised to see a preview for Star Wars Episode III. I know we all been disappointed with I and II, but this one looks very much like we fans have been hoping for.
  • 12 year old sees through skerry Lies

Today, my 12 year old daughter was telling me that when she was watching the last debate, she spit out her drink from laughing when sKerry said that he never said he wanted a 'Global Test'. Then she says to me, "He's so stupid. How stupid does he think we all are?" - From a 12 year old.

I just got back from a sneak preview of Team America. Wow! You will clap and cheer at least a dozen times. All the actors you love to hate get what they have coming. It is graphic, it is hilarious, it has a lot of raunchy sex. But most of all, it is Team America: World Police.
  • How do casualties in Iraq compare to peacetime casualty rates?

    10/01/2004 6:07:39 AM PDT · by pjd · 16 replies · 658+ views
I keep hearing the other side claiming how badly the war in Iraq is going. Maybe I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the War in Iraq was part of the War on Terror, but that the War in Iraq was fought and won in about 6 days with less than 100 U.S. casualties. Seemed pretty well planed and executed to me. My understanding is that we are seeing in Iraq now is Iraq reconstruction taking place in the midst of part of the continuing War on Terror. But The War in Iraq it is not. Anyway, my...

    Townhall.com ^ | Oct. 30, 2004 | Robert Novak
Before the debates, Robert wrote a column about lies and myths Kerry has been telling, and wondered if he would be repeating these lies at the debate. Boy was he right. Kerry's myth making Robert Novak September 30, 2004 WASHINGTON -- John Kerry in a press conference last week repeated his accusation that Gen. Eric Shinseki was "forced out" as U.S. Army chief of staff because he wanted more troops for Iraq. The trouble is that the Democratic presidential nominee was spreading an urban myth. The bigger trouble is that it was no isolated incident. Sen. Kerry last week also...
  • Are you a RepubliCAN'T or a RepubliCAN? Get out the Vote!

    09/30/2004 6:02:00 AM PDT · by pjd · 8 replies · 164+ views
In a conversation I had yesterday, a dialog from last years' movie Once Upon a Time in Mexico came up where one fellow asks another, "Are you a MexiCAN'T or a MexiCAN?" Well, I was just thinking: Why haven't I heard the obvious paraphrase, "Are you a RepubliCAN'T or a RepubliCAN?" Sometimes, a friendly challange is all one need to get motivated. It could be a useful slogan for the Republican get out the vote campaign.

2004 Has Been A Political Disaster For BushUntil the last few weeks, 2004 has been a near disaster for George W. Bush’s presidency. Deaths of American soldiers in Iraq were rising. The Abu Ghraib prison scandal shocked and embarrassed the country, leading to more doubts about the Bush administration’s handling of the war and foreign policy in general. At the same time, there was a general lack of belief that the economy was recovering, thanks in large part to the liberal media. You remember the cliché, “The Jobless Recovery” that we heard almost daily until very recently. Add to that...
  • Once Upon A Time In Mexico

    09/19/2003 5:40:23 AM PDT · by pjd · 13 replies · 46+ views
I couldn't find a thread about this recent movie but I had the impression that many of you would boycot it because it features Johnny Depp. Well, Johnny Depp aside, the movie actually has a theme which I believe would be very dear to most here at FR so you may want to reconsider (If it's still playing in your area.) The underlying theme of the movie is freedom, patriotism (for Mexico, in this case,) and why it is important for the people to keep and bear arms. In the movie, corrupt politicos use the Mexican Army in an attempted...
