I had a simple dream last night. In fact, it was so simple, it didn't have a location, it didn't have people, it didn't even have any action. It was just a feeling. A dream about a feeling, pure and simple.
Naturally, I awoke from this dream with...a feeling. A powerful, wonderful feeling that I can only describe as invincibility. However, 'invincibility' was not what my dream was about. Instead, the feeling in my dream was about 'knowing'. It was about knowing that someone - my partner, my team, whoever - but someone had my back. Without question, without doubt, without the slightest hesitation, I knew my back was covered. That's it. It was just the nice, warm, empowering feeling that someone had my back.
Well, although I awoke with this wonderful feeling - and believe me, it was wonderful - I couldn't shake another feeling. I couldn't stop thinking about our poor, hung out to dry comrades in Benghazi and how nobody had their backs.
Instead, from the people who were *supposed* to have their backs all they got was, "We don't know if it's safe for us to come in. We don't know if we can get there in time. We see on live feeds that you are under attack, we hear your calls for help, but we have to analyze the situation first." In other words, "Until we know absolutely EVERYTHING about the situation, we must order your rescue operations to stand down. Sorry."
This was a travesty of unimaginable proportions. Something that should never, ever, ever happen to any brave soul while in service of the United States. We should always have their backs, no matter what, no matter where, no matter who. They are us and we've got to have their backs!
Politicians love to use tragedies like this in order to push unpopular legislation that will do absolutely nothing to fix the problem.
I propose something that will actually help. I think we should commemorate, not the Benghazi Tragedy, but the Benghazi Failure. We should commemorate it with something like an "I've Got Your Back Day". A day when we should all take pride in who's backs we watch, and take comfort in who is watching ours. And most importantly to remember that we never leave a friend behind.
Now, although the idea here is to commemorate the failure in Benghazi, I think it is important to not have the word "Benghazi" in the name. Instead, people are forced to ask, why do we have this "I Got Your Back Day" and why is it on September 11? Then someone has to say the reason out loud. Someone has to say, "The reason we have this day is because on Sept 11, 2012 in Benghazi, Libya we did not have our brothers' backs and because of that, our brothers died and they died badly. It was the worst and most senseless abandonment of American citizens in United States history. So we commemorate this failure so that we won't forget and to help us ensure that it never happens again. Because this, unlike many other things, is and was preventable.
Anyway, that's my proposal. Maybe we can get some of our legislators officialize such a day or the talk show guys to promote it. The message is positive, the lesson is Benghazi.
When one considers the base betrayal of the promise that every troop makes to himself and his brothers, one would tend to assume that outrage would automatically follow.
There has been some. Not near enough.
The powers that be knew what was happening in <30 minutes after the attack started.
At that point every available resource should be been started towards the conflict.
It is not at all unlikely, based on the timeline, that ground forces sufficient to control the situation would have gotten there in time to save the ambassador. But that is comprehensively beside the point. They didn’t know this at the time, and anyway there were 30-some Americans in peril there, not 1.
The whole thing makes me feel sick to my stomach.
The big guy got away with it. Memorial Day is today, and it’s when Americans pay even less attention to what’s happening in the world.
When the liberals accuse Republicans of 'politicizing Benghazi' they can SHOVE IT UP THEIR AZZ. Their LIES and ABANDONMENT of Americans to die was ALL IN THE NAME OF POLITICS AIMED AT SAVING 0BAMA'S RE-ELECTION. That is ALL they thought about during and after the attack.
"We're the Battling Bastards of Bataan,
No mama, no papa, no Uncle Sam.
No cousins, no uncles, no nephews, no nieces,
No rifles, no guns, no artillery pieces,
And nobody gives a damn . . . "
There was not only a failure to protect our people in Benghazi, there was a failure to even attempt to protect them. In order to keep the focus on those who are culpable we should always refer to Benghazi not as a tragedy but as a failure. A failure by Obama and a failure by Hillary to even attempt to save Americans who were under attack.
Dang.
I suggest we commemorate by wearing American flags with white feathers.
It just seems that long ago.
Found in my email this am and thought it might need to be seen on the threads ..... Grateful for your time posting it....stay safe !
