Chaplain Douglas Carver told the soldiers dressed in fatigues and black berets -- to “remember to keep breathing ... keep going.” God Bless America and Amazing Grace were sung as people clung to one another and bowed their heads. It was the first community gathering since the killings.

Noting tomorrow’s 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall on Sunday’s Today show, former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw claimed East Germans were “still adjusting to the harsh economic realities” of life after communism. But a recent poll of former East bloc countries by the Pew Research Center actually discovered that the people of what was East Germany are actually the biggest enthusiasts of the shift to capitalism, with 82% approving, higher than any other ex-communist country. Brokaw did note, however, that the current “center-right” Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, was “born and raised in East Germany,”...

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama has postponed his plan to visit the capitol Friday in order to lobby Congress on health care reform. Instead, he’ll visit the hill on Saturday when House lawmakers are planning to vote on a $1.2 trillion health care bill. The president’s decision comes one day after thousands of Americans showed up in Washington to speak out against the liberal plan. Protestor: ‘This is Not Europe’ A sea of Americans converged in Washington Thursday, traveling from as far as California, Texas and Oregon to rally against a health care plan they say tramples on their constitutional...

The August Congressional Budget Office budget forecast for the fiscal year that began last month says that Uncle Sam will take in $2.264 trillion from October 2009 through September 2010. That’s an increase of 7.6% over fiscal 2009’s intake of $2.105 trillion. Though it won’t be official until Tim Geithner’s crew releases its Monthly Treasury Statement next week, it’s virtually certain that the government’s collections will open the year in a deep hole compared to last year, and probably well behind what CBO expects. Take a look at this compilation of key items from October’s final Daily Treasury Statement, compared...

On June 12, 1987, as the liberal media elite were toasting the leader of the Soviet Union as a great champion of progress, President Ronald Reagan stood at the Berlin Wall and challenged Mikhail Gorbachev to put his money where his mouth was: “General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” Gorbachev did not open the gate or tear down the Berlin Wall, but two years later the people of...

After President George W. Bush employed the words, “You’re either with us, or you’re with the terrorists,” addressing a joint session of Congress in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks - as the President prepared for the impending war in Afghanistan - liberals eventually treated those words with consternation as if the blunt declaration reflected poorly on America. But pro-democracy activists in Iran seem to like a similar message, as a group of protesters in Iran called on President Barack Obama to support their cause, chanting, “Obama, Obama, either you’re with them or you’re with us!” Uniquely among the broadcast...

When you're an MSMer, you're an MSMer all the way--even when faced with facts that might make you like, well, ridiculous . . . Mike Allen, appearing on Morning Joe, has declared the NY-23rd race a "real toss-up" despite a new poll from a respected organization showing Doug Hoffman with a 17-point lead. The claim by Allen, Politico's chief political correspondent, was so absurd that, on the spot, host Joe Scarborough offered 3:1 odds to Allen and anyone else wanting to place a few kopeks on Dem Bill Owens.

The Federal Stimulus Package has been distributed in many different ways around the nation, and now some people are getting an $8,000 tax credit for buying a souped up golf cart. Golf cart manufacturers have found a way to cash in by selling their carts as street legal, low speed vehicles. Under the president’s stimulus plan, those who buy one of the electric vehicles, can get a check back for up to $7,500. “I only came in because I was impressed with the fact of the rebate,” one customer said. “I could foresee using this for all our driving within...

Yet another example of the folly of assigning liberals to guard duty. Joining Rachel Maddow on her MSNBC show Thursday to vent about that pesky wabbit Joe Lieberman was Fire Dog Lake blogger Jane Hamsher. Democrats wield considerable leverage over Lieberman, Hamsher opined, to keep him from joining a GOP filibuster of ObamaCare or punish him if he does -- MADDOW: ... I think you’re right to point out that other senators sort of gently expressing their disapproval of his proverbial toplessness at this point is a bigger deal than it would be in the real world, that their words...

WASHINGTON -- In a move that might be a sign of a truce after publicly blasting each other for weeks, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs met this week with a top Fox News executive. The war against Fox News started when the White House said it would treat Fox as “an opponent” and that the network is a biased organization, a research arm of the Republican Party. “The reality of it is that Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party,” White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said recently....

The leader of an Islamic mosque in Detroit, Mich., was shot and killed during an FBI raid Wednesday-- now the search is on for others involved. Luqman Ameen Abdullah told his followers that a revolution on American soil could not succeed without violence. He was killed in a shootout with FBI agents at a warehouse in Dearborn, Mich., just outside of Detroit. Abdullah opened fire on the agents after they attempted to arrest him on charges...

President Obama continues to face criticism over what some say is a campaign that seems like it never ended. The London Telegraph’s U.S. editor, Toby Harnden, writes: “Beyond the grand announcements, fine speeches and his eager acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize, Mr. Obama has yet to achieve anything of substance. It is time for the campaign to end.” The Politico newspaper says the president’s trip to Florida this week: “Looks like a campaign swing... the strongest sign that Obama is in campaign mode is that his scheduled events sidestep controversial issues.” The stimulus and health care reform are not...

PORT CHARLOTTE - Two men, armed with a knife and tire iron, reportedly forced their way inside a Port Charlotte home Saturday night, only to find the occupants had guns. The botched home invasion robbery ended quickly when one of the suspects sustained a nonfatal gunshot wound to the stomach, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have arrested one man, and intend to charge the other upon his release from a Fort Myers-area hospital in connection to the attempted robbery at the 21000 block of Beaverton Avenue. The Washington, D.C., City Council will hold hearings Monday on whether it should legalize gay marriage in the district. So far, city leaders have rejected the call for a public vote, saying marriage is a civil rights issue that should not be on the ballot. Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America, joined the CBN News Channel’s Midday program to discuss the national implications should the law be passed. Click play to watch the interview.
