A Truce? Fox News Meets with White House

WASHINGTON -- In a move that might be a sign of a truce after publicly blasting each other for weeks, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs met this week with a top Fox News executive.

The war against Fox News started when the White House said it would treat Fox as “an opponent” and that the network is a biased organization, a research arm of the Republican Party.

“The reality of it is that Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party,” White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said recently.

Ever since, Fox News has jabbed the White House repeatedly, even joking about plotting war strategy.

“I’m showing you where the enemy is. So we’ve got the missiles pointed right at Fox. Let’s make sure everybody understands that this is the enemy America! Everything going wrong in the country happening right here,” Fox Host Glenn Beck joked recently.

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly also took a few shots at the Obama administration, saying there’s “something very disturbing about the Obama administration fighting harder against Fox News than the Taliban.”

“Fox News has been pounding this night after night after night,” said Washington Post critic Howard Kurtz. “It enables Fox to position itself as the only news organization that is holding the administration’s feet to the fire.”

The spat has enabled Fox’s ratings to shoot up. Since this war began, ratings on the news channel are up roughly 10 percent. On the Internet, a new Facebook site is asking people to “be a Foxer’ and support Fox News.

The White House was unavailable for an interview for this story.

I liked this article because it illustrates the pathetic childishness of the 0 WH.

Picking a fight with a news organization. Can you say Venezuela?

I think the admin’s attack on FOX has not only helped FOX’s ratings but it seems to have emboldened some of the other media (Katie Couric/AP)into also taking shots @ the Admin. Looks like a twofer for the opposition!

I think you’re on to the very reason they’ll be open to a truce. When the MSM starts taking pot shots at O, the White House knows it’s opening a pandoras box by throwing barbs at a NEWS organization.

Fox shouldn’t change a thing..Keep up the reporting..Do not make nice with marxists!

Every single guy at Fox can openly brag that they will get a pay raise this year...for increasing viewership. Every single guy working at MSNBC, ABC, CNN, CBS and NBC...can hope that they don’t get cut or get a pay decrease this year. There’s a difference here. Sooner or later...the little guys in CNN are going to openly comment on why ratings are low and why they are forced to accept paycuts. It’ll destroy the morale of the organization to go through four years of this. So, if this was the gameplan back in January...I would sit down and think about my future in any of those new networks.

TRUCE?
How can you have a truce with this bunch of lying thugs?
All they want is for FOX to back off. What will they give in return?
Who are you kidding?

I bet obama has spent at least “20 direct hours” plotting to kill Fox.

Ailes will cave and fox will swing from the middle to the hard-left... like they did before the election.

Yep. Because, where will their viewers go? Its not like there’s an alternative. Same philosophy the GOP has. Or used to have, now.

“Yep. Because, where will their viewers go? Its not like there’s an alternative.”

That is the same philosophy that got the newspapers in the fix they are in these days.
