The Washington, D.C., City Council will hold hearings Monday on whether it should legalize gay marriage in the district.

So far, city leaders have rejected the call for a public vote, saying marriage is a civil rights issue that should not be on the ballot.

But some local pastors and other citizens believe the voters should decide in a referendum.

Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America, joined the CBN News Channel’s Midday program to discuss the national implications should the law be passed. Click play to watch the interview.

Bishop Harry Jackson, chairman of Stand 4 Marriage DC, said he believed God would “do a miracle” by changing the minds of council members who support gay marriage.

The Maryland minister will testify before the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics on Monday to support the initiative that marriage remain between one man and one woman.

On Sunday, hundreds of people in Washington, D.C., rallied for the right to vote on same-sex marriage.

Rev. Jon Boyles, a Gaithersburg, Md., resident, voiced his opinion at the rally.

“A father and a son. A mother and a daughter could come forward and say we want to be married,” he told reporters about the implications of supporting gay marriage.

The Washington, D.C., hearing is expected to consist of two days of testimonies from more than 125 opponents and supporters of same sex marriage. A vote could come as early as December.

If you vote against gay marriage, is it a hate crime?
