The NFL and the mainstream media have offered grace and given the benefit of the doubt to Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis after he tweeted an anti-Asian slur three weeks ago. Davis, who is black, tweeted, “Gotta stop letting g***s in Miami.” He has since deleted the post, offered an apology, and explained that he thought the term meant “lame.” “I would never offend any group of people,” Davis wrote on Twitter, April 4. “You reporters can look for another story to blow up. The term was directed towards a producer claiming he ‘ran Miami.’ With that being said...

For the second year in a row, Blinn upset the defending national champions and now the Bucs anxiously await the next NJCAA poll to see if they will assume the top spot just like last year. The Bucs signed free agent Jeff Garcia on Saturday, then announced they had also obtained the rights to Jake Plummer from Denver to potentially give the team an interesting tussle for the reins to coach Jon Gruden's offense. Garcia, a three-time Pro Bowl selection who nearly signed with the Bucs as a free agent in 2004, agreed to a two-year deal he hopes will give him a chance to finally get to the Super Bowl. A championship is missing from Plummer's resume, too, but it appears winning one may no longer be a personal goal after losing his starting job...

Once upon a time, in a Florida far, far away, the lakes were translucent lagoons, teeming with fish and fowl. The landscape was a tropical Eden, saturated with guava fruit, papaya, coconut and mangoes. And, most importantly, the football fields were filled with magnificent touchdown prances and end zone dances. These days, something awful and alarming is happening to our beloved land. The lakes now teem with slime and sludge. The landscape is covered in strip malls and T-shirt shops. And, worst of all, the football fields are barren wastelands, devoid of offensive imagination and innovation. Who unplugged our scoreboards?...
