TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - It seems like everyone has some advice these days for the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers and struggling quarterback Chris Simms.
Even President Bush tossed the football with the former University of Texas quarterback Thursday, and offered some advice.
"Never give up," Bush said Thursday when asked what he told the Bucs during a half-hour visit to the team's training facility near Raymond James Stadium, where the president delivered a fundraising speech to about 400 people in a VIP club area.
Coach Jon Gruden wouldn't disclose what additional wisdom the president might have imparted to Simms.

Just so everyone knows, the Buccaneers have not played yet. This is the alien team called the Succaneers. I hope they are returned soon! :o)

Coach Jon Gruden wouldn't disclose what additional wisdom the president might have imparted to Simms. Clearly he is not a Democrat or a RINO!

in a VIP club area. this phrase in a Tampa location is not a flattering image.

Thank Goodness Bush won in 2004, or this story would be accompanied by a picture like this:

President Bush will be raising funds for Katherine Harris and appearing at a campaign event with her......if I am not mistaken.

Just some deep background... Advance operatives worked on this activity for over a week before the President's visit. It was not supposed to be a press opportunity, but a special reward for the Buccaneers. You see, every winning Superbowl team has enjoyed a Whitehouse visit. Save one. Because of the secure undisclosed nature of the winter of 2002, the Bucs never took their victory lap through the WhiteHouse. However, a consolation visit by POTUS on the occasion of a dis-spirited opening season was more than welcomed.
The chief operative, who organized the advance work (a huge undertaking), had to hold the fort on another front (can't tell you the story behind that), and was not, to his great frustration, able to enjoy the fun with the team and the President. I had to remind him of the sign on President Reagan's desk, "There is no limit to what a man may accomplish, if he is willing to allow others to take the credit."
