The Blinn Buccaneers may want to play the Butler Grizzlies as their first opponent every year. For the second year in a row, Blinn upset the defending national champions and now the Bucs anxiously await the next NJCAA poll to see if they will assume the top spot just like last year. No. 1 Butler came to the Bucs’ home field and looked to have the game in hand early due to Blinn mistakes. But despite cramps and injuries, the Bucs came back in the fourth quarter to tie it and then go ahead by a touchdown with 1:39 left on the clock. Transfer quarterback Cam Newton carried it in from six yards out on an option to the left to make it 24-17.

“We overcame, overcame, overcame,” Newton said. “Every kid has a dream of leading his team to a victory like this."

Blinn turned the ball over on the opening kickoff. Two more turnovers in the first half left the Bucs struggling to regain their composure. Add to that the excessive late afternoon heat and the Bucs’ home field advantage could have easily faded away.
