The Bucs signed free agent Jeff Garcia on Saturday, then announced they had also obtained the rights to Jake Plummer from Denver to potentially give the team an interesting tussle for the reins to coach Jon Gruden's offense.
Garcia, a three-time Pro Bowl selection who nearly signed with the Bucs as a free agent in 2004, agreed to a two-year deal he hopes will give him a chance to finally get to the Super Bowl.
A championship is missing from Plummer's resume, too, but it appears winning one may no longer be a personal goal after losing his starting job with the Broncos last season. The 32-year-old said on the Web site of The Jake Plummer Foundation that he was retiring.

So Tampa Bay will suck less now?
Do you think Plummer will now be traded somewhere else? There's no need to have Garcia, Plummer, and Simms.
Buc fans, you have to fire the team's owners.
Garcia was will be running for his life like he did in Detroit!
And this just in: ESPN to broadcast today's NASCAR Busch Series race from Mexico in "Spanish" only! WTF?!!!!!
Looks like Jake's decision to retire is final (for this season, anyway).
Funny thing is... Plummer would be the #4 buy behind Simms, Garcia and Gradkowski. I would see him starting the season at the QB3 if he actually plays this season.
No wonder he's thinking about retiring. From being benched after starting 7-4 last year, to now being on the practice squad with Bruce Gradkowski... That's gotta sting a bit.
I was wondering if you could answer this question for me about Gradkowski. When Simms got injured and Gradkowski started, he actually started off pretty good didn't he? I'm a Bengal's fan, and the Bengals played against the Bucs in Week 5 in either his first or second week starting. The Bengals lost in a close defeat on a horrible call against Justin Smith by ref. Mike Carey. He actually looked good that day, and the media seemed gun-ho on him. Now it could have been due to the Bengal's week defense. They were ranked about at the bottom this past season. Although, I assumed that he was doing pretty well after that. I had thought that he had taken Simms starting job. So, did he go onto just have a mediocre to poor season after that?
In a word, yes. Once teams got a book on Gradkowski, he was pretty easy to keep contained. Some of that blame has to fall on the Bucs O-Line, who could not protect the QB - He was sacked 24 times from after the injury to Simms and when he got benched for Tim Rattay in Week 15.
It seems the only teams he did well against were your Bengals, the Saints and the Redskins.
Thanks. Yup, only the Bengals could make a weak first year starter look like an all pro.
