They took a bite out of this crime. New Jersey police arrested the zoo visitor who brazenly hopped a fence and got terrifyingly close to a Siberian tiger that tried to chomp on the woman’s hand last week. Zyair Dennis, 24, is facing a defiant trespassing charge along with violating two city ordinances after she climbed the fence at the Cohanzick Zoo and stuck her hand inside the tiger’s enclosure, Bridgeton police said Monday in a statement. Police last week had shared jaw-dropping footage of Dennis’ Aug. 18 antics.

A veteran New Jersey police officer jumped into a river to save a burglary suspect -- and then died hours later. Bridgeton Police Department officer Sean Peek, 49, responded to a burglary call at an ambulance station around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when he saw a person running through the woods and then either fall or jump into the Cohansey River, authorities said. “Sean made a decision as would any officer and entered to water in [an] attempt to pull the person from the running waters no matter what the circumstances,” Police Chief Michael Gaimari Sr. said Monday. “The woman eventually...

Leaders in a St. Louis suburb are urgently calling on top Obama administration officials to quickly clean up a landfill with radioactive waste that they believe could catch fire. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been working for 25 years on the West Lake Landfill in Bridgeton, Mo., which has housed barium sulfate waste from the Manhattan Project since the 1970s. The EPA is still studying the site and considering a wide range of actions to contain the radioactive material under its Superfund program for cleaning severe environmental contamination. But with an underground, smoldering fire in an adjacent landfill, residents...
