The FBI has reviewed emails from an AOL account of Philadelphia Congressman Bob Brady after a federal magistrate granted a search warrant to investigators. The search involves allegations Brady paid his 2012 Democratic primary opponent, Jimmie Moore, $90,000 from his campaign fund to drop his challenge for Brady’s seat. Four have been charged in the investigation; two have pleaded guilty, including Moore. Moore, who has admitted violating campaign finance laws, is prepared to testify he met with Brady and struck a deal for his departure in return for the $90,000 to retire Moore’s campaign debt. Brady has not been charged,...

It has been 24 hours since news broke that Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Bob Brady is under FBI investigation for allegedly paying his primary opponent to drop out of the race, but CNN has published zero articles and devoted zero airtime to the story. The FBI was granted a search warrant for Brady’s campaign email, BobCongress@Aol.com, as part of its investigation into payments Brady’s campaign allegedly made to 2012 primary opponent Jimmie Moore. Two of Brady’s political consultants have already been charged in connection with the investigation. A search of CNN’s website shows the news outlet has yet to publish an...

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The FBI has reason to believe U.S. Rep. Bob Brady unlawfully concealed a $90,000 payment made by his campaign to get an opponent to quit a 2012 primary race, according to court documents that confirm the Philadelphia Democrat is under investigation in a widening campaign finance probe. In unsealed court documents made public Monday, the FBI requested a search warrant and has obtained data from an email account belonging to Brady. The FBI agent who filed the warrant wrote that there is probable cause Brady violated contribution limits and produced false documents, and there is evidence that...
  • Court docs: Congressman Bob Brady under FBI scrutiny in campaign finance probe (Democrat)

Rep. Robert Brady, D-Pennsylvania, is a target of FBI scrutiny in an investigation into payments his campaign allegedly made to his opponent in 2012 to encourage him to drop out of the race, according to an approved search warrant application filed in U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Two political consultants have already been charged in the campaign finance probe involving Brady's reelection, but the search warrant application dated Nov. 1 appears to be the first time Brady himself is mentioned as suspected of criminal wrongdoing in the probe. Federal prosecutors last month said Kenneth Smukler and...
  • Bill to Ban Crosshairs

Representative Bob Brady of Pennsylvania told The Caucus he plans to introduce a bill that would ban symbols like that now-infamous campaign crosshair map. "You can't threaten the president with a bullseye or a crosshair," Mr. Brady, a Democrat, said, and his measure would make it a crime to do so to a member of Congress or federal employee, as well. Asked if he believed the map incited the gunman in Tucson, he replied, "I don't know what's in that nut's head. I would rather be safe than sorry."

While U.S. Rep. Bob Brady has escaped any serious election threat since 2000, his blowout loss in the spring's Democratic mayoral primary led to rumblings that his Teflon may be eroding. Now comes a political newcomer, physician Keith Leaphart, to test that notion. Leaphart no doubt would face a formidable task in unseating the five-term congressman in April's primary. But the 32-year-old African American, who'd be challenging the only white House member representing a mostly black district, has some equally formidable financial backing. On Dec. 6, two major Philadelphia philanthropists - H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest and Peter L. Buttenwieser - are...

The 30-year reign of Shamsud-din Ali, the once politically connected Muslim cleric who rubbed elbows with Mayor Street, U.S. Rep. Bob Brady and Gov. Rendell, is over at a West Philadelphia mosque. In a court-supervised election on Saturday, registered Muslims voted 160-143 for a new seven-member board headed by Ali's one-time top aide Rafiq Kalam Id-din.
