Rep. Robert Brady, D-Pennsylvania, is a target of FBI scrutiny in an investigation into payments his campaign allegedly made to his opponent in 2012 to encourage him to drop out of the race, according to an approved search warrant application filed in U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Two political consultants have already been charged in the campaign finance probe involving Brady's reelection, but the search warrant application dated Nov. 1 appears to be the first time Brady himself is mentioned as suspected of criminal wrongdoing in the probe. Federal prosecutors last month said Kenneth Smukler and Donald Jones planned a scheme for the Brady campaign to make an illicit $90,0000 campaign donation to Jimmie Moore, intended to pay down campaign debt. No charges have been filed against Brady.
Now, FBI special agent Jonathan Szeliga says in the search warrant application obtained by CBS News he has "probable cause to believe that Kenneth Smukler, Robert Brady, Donald "D.A." Jones, Jimmie Moore, and Carolyn Cavaness and others known and unknown have committed violations," including conspiracy, false statements, and causing false campaign contribution reports, and limits on campaign contributions and expenditures. The search warrant is directed at AOL, for all AOL accounts associated with Brady's email account, "bobcongress@aol.com." The search warrant application is signed by U.S. Magistrate Judge Carol Sandra Moore Wells.
Seamus Hughes, deputy director of the Program on Extremism at the George Washington University, first reported the existence of the search warrant request.
CBS News has reached out to Brady's office for comment. Brady's office directed CBS News to Brady's attorney, who was reviewing the court documents.
Brady is the ranking Democrat on the House Administration Committee, and has been since 2007.
According to the special agent's claims in the search warrant application, "The investigation has uncovered evidence which indicates that Brady, Smuckler, and Jones utilized Smukler's and D.A. Jones' corporations to conceal payments from Brady's campaign to repay Moore campaign debts in exchange for Moore's agreements to withdraw from the 2012 Democratic primary race against Brady for U.S. Representative in Pennsylvania's 1st District. The evidence shows that these concealed payments were made for the purpose of removing Brady's primary opponent from the race and willfully undermining various provisions of the Federal Election Campaign Act (FECA) in the process."
"As discussed in detail below, these goals were accomplished by routing three payments totaling $90,000 from Brady's campaign through political consulting companies to the campaign manager for Moore's campaign, who used a portion of the funds to pay debts owned by the Moore campaign, keeping the remainder of the money for herself and Moore," the search warrant application continues.
Ok so what about Hillary who did far worse things?
This is all well and good, but...
When is the Bureau going to man up and bring Hillary and her henchwomen to justice?
I would think the FBI would want to salvage whatever credibility they have left.
Two things:
1. Maybe this seat will go Republican.
2. We need to make sure that there aren’t any Republicans doing this kind of crap and if so the Republicans need to investigate and prosecute them VIGOROUSLY in order to maintain integrity in the public eye.
I hold little hope that the FBI is an organization true to it’s motto. I do not trust any longer. Same with all the other “alphabet” agencies.
Philly! Corruption! You have got to be kidding?
3. We need an on-line list to keep track of all of these corrupt activities. It’s going to be hard to know how the prosecution game is going with out a good scorecard.
Remember, in just the Congress, the list could be 535 persons. Maybe that’s a starting point. We could start there and “eliminate” the dozen or so who may not be good for an investigation.
Nope. It’s a hyper-Democrat seat (80% Hillary, 18% Trump) and hasn’t elected a Republican since 1946. It’s actually majority Black, but because of the sheer power of the Philadelphia Democrat Machine, they can install (White) people like Bill Brady.
When pigs fly past my window.
Are you serious? Philly going R. Doubt it.
Used to be a time that until the 1940s that Philadelphia was the most reliably Republican city in America. Of course, even Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle were Republican way back when.
There was “no way” the Donald Trump was going to be President, either.
We can always hope. And then we still have to work to make that hope real.
The point of The Storm is to clear out members of Congress - mostly Ds but a few Rs will bite the dust as well - is to get rid of the seasoned members.
Get rid of the entrenched Swamp Dwellers and bring in young pups who don’t quite know what to do and might be out of office soon.
That way the Congress entrenched power players are gone and POTUS can get his agenda done in the next seven years.
CNTRL - ALT - DELETE of Congress.
Don’t lose hope. It is all we have. Trump did well in Philly and Pa. in general. People were tired of Hillary and just held their opinion to themselves. The Unions will not let that happen again. Philly is 80% + Democrap and 100% Corrupt. Not going to change.
LOL Bobby Brady is in a heap of trouble.......
The last time it did was 70 years ago. In the 80s, the congressman from the district had assault charges filed against him and got convicted in Abscam and expelled, and the seat still didn't go to a Republican.
Sometimes it's possible that a representative has a scandal during the campaign and the opponent scores a fluke victory. But if the scandal breaks long before the election, the machine can just replace the incumbent and go on to hold the seat.
Sessions said Justice had to have time to investigate the Uranium deal information that they had been covering up.

Benczkowski of the Justice Departments Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
