For all of you who either doubted or feared Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos, I hereby present this Daily KOs KOmmie THREAD nervously titled, "The Remaining Superdelegates; It's Not Pretty." And what's not pretty is the prospect of a locked Democrat convention due to Barack Obama not getting a majority of the votes. Many on the Left keep quoting 2025 delegates as the magic number needed to clinch the nomination. Not so if you count the Michigan and Florida delegates. And guess who has the vast majority of those delegates---Hillary. Superdelegates just don't do the trick for Obama to avoid...

Most all local governments have extensive programs in place for government inspection of elevators because, you know, private businesses can't be trusted to operate safe equipment. But it turns out the least safe elevators are operated by the government itself: New York City Transit has spent close to $1 billion to install more than 200 new elevators and escalators in the subway system since the early 1990s, and it plans to spend almost that much again for dozens more machines through the end of the next decade. It is an investment of historic dimensions, aimed at better serving millions of...

A Congresswoman from California has let her mortgage go into foreclosure. Laura Richardson (D)walked away from the mortgage on her Sacramento home, letting the house slip into foreclosure and left it in shambles less than two years after she purchased it with no down payment.

The interview itself, however, was quite bizarre. A pleasant if not docile woman, Ms. Hillman seemed not to know how to conduct an interview. She seemed unprepared and unsure of what to do from one moment to the next. In short order, I became the one keeping the conversation afloat, even offering suggestions as to what questions should be asked. Indeed, an interesting first impression. The next day I received a call back from Faye. It took me a moment to realize who she was on voicemail when she referred to herself as ‘Lorraine Phelan’ – Don’s wife. Odd, I...

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- The U.S. and south Korean warmongers are staging joint military exercises, while separately escalating the war maneuvers. This comes under fire by a signed commentary of Minju Joson Tuesday. The situation on the Korean Peninsula is inching closer to the brink of war due to the U.S. and south Korean war-thirsty forces' frantic war exercises to invade the DPRK, the commentary says, and goes on: What merits attention is that the moves of the U.S. and south Korean bellicose forces to provoke a war against the DPRK have become evermore pronounced since Lee Myung Bak...

Plant Rights, Screaming Vegetation, and a "Biocentric" Worldview Posted: Monday, May 05, 2008 at 3:59 am ET Several years ago now, I was appearing on a national network interview program and found myself discussing capital punishment with a woman who, during a commercial break, indicated that she had recently seen a combine going through a wheat field. She was horrified. The wheat was being cut down by thousands of stalks a second. She felt grief for the wheat, she revealed. No one person on the panel knew what to do with that off-hand statement. I think it is safe to...

A poll conducted by Knowledge Networks found that 66 percent of the 1,100 people responding favored legalizing assisted suicide. The most popular candidates for the procedure according to an open-ended question on the poll were an annoying spouse (23 percent), insane boss (16 percent), nosy neighbor (11 percent), the driver who cut me off (5 percent), unspecified others (11 percent).

Sheesh! In an unbelievable display of a lack of common sense, the Obama campaign chose The Decemberists as the band to perform prior to the arrival of the Obamassiah last weekend in Portland. For those unfamiliar with the Decemberists, they often open their acts with a rendition of the national anthem...of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. I kid you not. I found one of their Soviet Anthem tunes on YouTube but the quality really stinks and all you see is mostly darkness and people yaketty-yakking in the background. However, you can hear and see the Soviet national anthem...

Billary gave an impassioned speech in Boca Raton Florida in attempts to gain delegates in both Florida and Michigan. In her speech she states that her campaign’s struggle to succeed at this task is similar to the ending slavery. Clinton goes on to say: that it is also similar to “fighting racial discrimination at the ballot box” she stated. “This work to extend the franchise to all of our citizens is a core mission of the modern Democratic Party” Clinton adds. Let’s rewind to 2000 when Condoleezza Rice spoke at the Republican National Convention shall we? Rice recalls: “The first...

Mr. Practical was commenting on the variance between the crude goods PPI and the finished goods PPI. This is what Mr. P has to say: I sent this chart of the Producer Price Index out to a few friends. I began getting calls from people I barely knew. Apparently, the chart really made the rounds and astounded people. I've talked about this before. I'm surprised people still don't get this. They look at the headline statistics the government puts out and don't bother to think about the real information embedded in the numbers. The crush on profits is beginning to...

"What is the attitude of the DCFS when confronted with over 3,000 mistakes they made? Spokesman Kendall Marlowe 'acknowledged that mistakes are made, but he said the vast majority of people…were placed there properly… he declined further comment.'"The DCFS chief administrative law judge Meryl Paniak said, 'A lot of what happens at these hearings is it becomes a legal process, not… whether it happened or not, but whether enough evidence is presented.'"Not a hint of apology, not a whiff of promise to a better job. In one word, arrogant."Ned Holstein of Fathers & Families has an interesting post on a...

Even Ted Kennedy's political enemies spoke kindly of him when they learned that he had a malignant brain tumor. But not conservative talk show host Michael Savage. As a form of "respect" to Kennedy on his syndicated talk show Tuesday, Savage played The Dead Kennedy's "California Uber Alles" - get it? Ho ho, the wit! Oh, and he dropped in a couple of "Kindergarten Cop" sound clips of the Arnold Schwarzenegger character saying, "It's not a tumor." Listen to it here, if you must. Then quickly bathe. Mike, Mike, Mike, one word, baby: Karma. It never forgets. Then again, Savage's...

Short film: Join recent college grad Rachael as she goes on a job interview in New Orleans that might actually kill her. Will she conspire to extort a federal official? Please watch the video and comment. "JOB INTERVIEWER Make a list. Name all the types of news stories someone might manufacture to push a client's scandal off the front page. RACHAEL My job interviewer had introduced himself on the phone as Frank McCoy, a partner at one of the world’s top public relations firms. What type of client? I asked. Response to Democrats' statement that McCain is Bush's third term We would, by the way, vote for another four years of Bush in a second over what the Democrats are offering. Please COPY, don't LINK, as linking uses my bandwidth.

I'd like to ask my fellow FReepers what you think about the Presidential candidacy of Bob Barr? Given our current choices for President, Obama, Clinton & McCain, is Bob Barr a good alternative this year? I know no one will agree 100% with any candidate's positions. But, instead of not voting, would a vote for Bob Barr be an alternative you would consider? As a disappointed Republican, I'm considering going Libertarian this year. I like most of their positins, especially on safeguarding Liberty for All. I'm tired of carrying Big Brother with me everywhere I go. I'd like to see...

CONGRATULATIONS! You have achieved what some believed to be nearly impossible last week. The AgJOBS amnesty has been stripped from the Iraq Supplemental bill. Here's more good news: the employment-based permanent workers have been stripped from the bill too! Unfortunately, the H-2B low-sill worker increase is still in the Iraq Supplemental so your phone calls are still needed... Our Capitol Hill team heard initial reports late last night that the AgJOBS amnesty had been stripped from the bill, but we wanted to await confirmation of that before reporting back to you. Apparently Senate Majority Leader Reid and other Senators were...
