Republicans on Tuesday blocked the Senate from advancing a $10 billion deal on coronavirus aid amid a stalemated fight over whether to attach a Trump-era immigration policy to the agreement. Absent a breakthrough, the stalemate would delay the coronavirus bill until after a two-week break that is expected to start by Friday. To pass the deal before that, they would need buy-in from all 100 senators. Senators voted 47-52 to advance legislation that’s being used as a vehicle for the coronavirus agreement, falling short of the 60 votes needed to move forward.

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) blocked an effort by Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to bypass the 60-vote legislative filibuster on a debt ceiling hike. Schumer tried to get an agreement to set up a simple majority vote on a bill to suspend the nation's borrowing limit, which would bypass the filibuster and let Democrats raise it without GOP support. "Simply allow for a simple majority threshold to raise the debt ceiling and avoid this needless catastrophe that Republicans have steered us toward," Schumer said.

The GOP leader did not directly address why he objected, but under the Senate's rules any one senator can block efforts to set up votes or pass bills.

LOS ANGELES - A U.S. judge on Friday blocked new Trump administration rules that would enable the government to keep immigrant children in detention facilities with their parents indefinitely. U.S. District Court Judge Dolly Gee in Los Angeles said the rules conflict with a 1997 settlement agreement that requires the government to release immigrant children caught on the border as quickly as possible to relatives in the U.S. and says they can only be held in facilities licensed by a state. Gee said the Flores agreement — named for a teenage plaintiff — will remain in place and govern the...

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi authorities have deprived Turkish soldiers, deployed in northern Iraq to combat Kurdish militias, from visas to return to their bases as means to cut down the number of troops which Baghdad had repeatedly demanded to pull out. A federal district judge in San Antonio blocked significant portions of Texas' sanctuary cities ban Wednesday, two days before the law was set to go into effect — a significant blow to Gov. Greg Abbott, who said the state would appeal. In a 94-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia blocked provisions in the law that required local law enforcement departments to comply with federal requests to hold unauthorized immigrants in their custody. He also blocked a part of the law that said local departments couldn't implement policies that would "materially limit" the enforcement of immigration laws.

Also blocked: a provision that stopped local departments from implementing policies that would “materially limit” enforcement of immigration laws, the Dallas News reported.

FBI officials are claiming a lack of public interest justifies their decision to keep Hilary Clinton’s very controversial archived records from being released to the public. “We have determined you have not sufficiently demonstrated that the public’s interest in disclosure outweighs personal privacy interests of the subject,†says the August 28 letter from David Hardy, the FBI’s record manager. “I’m just stunned. This is exactly what I would have expected had Mrs. Clinton won the election,â€Â Clevenger told the Washington Times. “It looks like the [Barack] Obama Administration is still running the FBI,†Clevenger added. “It is incumbent upon the requester to provide documentation...

Evil has a friend… Barack Obama blocks support to the Kurds to fight the Islamic State. ** It’s bad enough that he pulled US troops from Iraq. ** It’s bad enough he created the vacuum that allowed ISIS to flourish. ** It’s bad enough he is unable to comprehend true evil. ** It’s bad enough he lacks the will and courage to battle evil. But now he won’t support the people who are battling ISIS on the ground. Telegraph UK reported: The United States has blocked attempts by its Middle East allies to fly heavy weapons directly to the Kurds...

Cary Bogue, owner of the Facebook page entitled "Catholics and Protestants United Against Christian Discrimination, has said, "We all know Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is an avowed atheist, pro-abortion and a strong advocate for the LGBT." See here. Apparently so. Back in 2012, on the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, an exercise in judicial fabrication, I posted a photograph of an aborted [murdered] baby on Facebook. The photograph was immediately removed by Facebook and I received this notice: "One of Your Photos Was Removed. A new report reveals that US President Barack Obama's administration stopped a shipment of missiles to Israel late last month and tightened weapons shipment procedures to Israel, as tensions between the two nations grow amid Operation Protective Edge. The report in the Wall Street Journal, released Wednesday night, cites US officials in Obama's administration, who say they discovered Israel had requested a large number of Hellfire missiles directly through military-to-military channels. An initial batch of the missiles was about to be shipped, according to sources in Israel and the US Congress. At that point, the Pentagon stepped in and put...

The Russian government this week canceled a planned U.S. surveillance flight over Russian territory in a bid to limit spying on massed troops facing off against Ukraine and Eastern Europe, according to U.S. officials. The overflight mission was scheduled for April 14 to April 16 under the 1992 Open Skies Treaty, but Russia’s government notified the State Department 72 hours before the scheduled flight that it would not be permitted. The cancelation is unusual because the sole reason for putting off such treaty-approve surveillance is flight safety, such as bad weather. Until this week, the United States and other European...
