I’m considering a purchase of a Van den Hul cartridge (XGW Colibri Stradivarius), having found a great price on them, what I can’t find is what the Tariff is going to be on this now as it’s coming out of Netherlands. Yes, I’ve posted on several audio boards - the TDS is BAD on those, every post degenerated into Trump bashing without resolution. Yes, I’ve dug into “our” very own US Customs site(s) and their databases are worse than the IRS’ tax code.. IF there is an easy way of determining this value, it’s beyond my google-fu. Thanks in advance.

A research group has discovered that using "a unique sound stimulation technology"—a device that stimulates the inner ear—reduces motion sickness. Even a single minute of stimulation reduced the staggering and discomfort felt by people that read in a moving vehicle. The results suggest a simple and effective way to treat this common disorder. "Our study demonstrated that short-term stimulation using a unique sound called 'sound spice' alleviates symptoms of motion sickness, such as nausea and dizziness," Kagawa said. "The effective sound level falls within the range of everyday environmental noise exposure, suggesting that the sound technology is both effective and...

I have a question for LINUX users: We ran updates for LINUX last night, and when I turned on the computer this morning, I had no sound. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the speakers, and my Bluetooth ear buds are still getting sound when I listen to various YT sites; but nothing is coming out of the computer/speakers otherwise. Has anyone experienced this? We have Mint, I think it's 21. We have never had an issue like this. Thanks to anyone who has time to respond.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said the House Judiciary Committee plans to file a lawsuit to force Attorney General Merrick Garland to turn over audio recordings of President Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur. The suit would be the latest effort to secure the tapes after the Justice Department informed Congress it would not be bringing criminal charges against Garland despite a House vote to hold him in contempt.

<p>President Biden cited executive privilege Thursday to block the House Oversight Committee from getting copies of five hours of audio recordings from his interviews with Special Counsel Robert Hur on Oct. 8-9, 2023, as well as tapes of ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer allegedly admitting to deleting incriminating recordings of Biden discussing classified information.</p>

On Thursday’s “MTP Now,” Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) said that he doesn’t know the particulars about President Joe Biden asserting executive privilege over audio recordings from Special Counsel Robert Hur but also criticized Republicans for considering a contempt resolution for Attorney General Merrick Garland over his refusal to hand over the recordings. Meeks said, “I don’t know the circumstances of that particular situation. I’ve not had that conversation. The fact of the matter is, the statement that you’re telling me is new to me. So, I would defer on that.”

Republicans will move to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress, DailyMail.com confirmed, after the Department of Justice refused to hand over audio tapes of Joe Biden's interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur. The attorney general had until April 8 to hand over requested materials from Robert Hur's interviews with Biden that led him to conclude the president is 'elderly' and 'well-meaning' but has a 'poor memory.' They subpoenaed transcripts, notes, audio and video files largely related to Hur's interview. While the DOJ has handed over transcripts of Hur's interviews with Biden as well as the transcript and...

The recording went viral in January, provoking rage in suburban Baltimore. It seemed that Pikesville High School Principal Eric Eiswert had been caught making racist and antisemitic comments. Angry phone calls overwhelmed the front desk. Employees felt afraid. Security was tightened. Eiswert was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. He received various threats of violence. A police report said one person told him the “world would be a better place if you were on the other side of the dirt.” All along, Eiswert denied making the offensive remarks. He said that wasn’t his voice on the recording. He believed...

Can a computer problem get any weirder? I'm running a fast Dell laptop with Win 11 Pro. If I play audio from YouTube while browsing with Brave (or Chrome), System sounds, test tones from Windows' troubleshooter, etc., play over a bluetooth speaker just fine, but the audio on the YouTube vid plays only over the tiny laptop speakers. (Nothing is connected to the headphone jack.) I've been all through Windows troubleshooting, and even a session with a MS tech support rep, to no avail, other than doing a Shift + Shutdown now results with (after booting back up and returning...

Researchers report that blood levels of the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were inversely correlated with hearing difficulty in a new population-based cross-sectional study. Middle-aged and older adults with higher DHA levels were 8–20% less likely to report age-related hearing issues than those with lower DHA levels. The results showed that people in the highest quintile (one-fifth of participants) of blood DHA levels were 16% less likely to answer yes to the question "do you have difficulty hearing" compared with those in the lowest quintile of DHA levels. Similarly, those in the highest quintile for DHA levels were 11%...

Low-level laser therapy and associated photobiomodulation is the most effective of the known treatments for tinnitus, according to a study comparing the main therapies in current use. Often described as ringing or hissing in the ears, it is considered a symptom rather than a disease, but is unpleasant and in some cases incapacitating. Its known causes can range from a buildup of earwax and insufficient peripheral irrigation in the inner ear to brain damage and bruxism. Panhóca and his team tested alternative and complementary treatments for idiopathic (with no apparent cause) and refractory tinnitus on more than 100 men and...

There's a simple application that can be installed to give that sound a boost. This application is called EasyEffects and is the successor to PulseEffects. EasyEffects supports the new PulseAudio replacement, Pipewire -- and includes all the right plugins you need to make your digital sounds come alive. ... With EasyEffects you can adjust things like: Blend Harmonics Scope EQ Balance Levels In many cases, all you have to do is add/remove different plugins until you get the exact sound you want. Many of the plugins allow you to fine-tune the sound, but I've found that some of them are...

In the most troubling revelation yet related to Joe Biden’s alleged bribery scandal, Sen. Chuck Grassley announced on Monday that over a dozen different tapes exist of conversations involving the matter. Even more shocking is that two of the tapes supposedly contain Biden himself speaking directly to the foreign national who says he arranged the bribes. ... Sen. Chuck Grassley says the foreign national who bribed Joe and Hunter Biden allegedly has 17 different recordings of conversations he had with them that he kept as an "insurance policy." "The foreign national who allegedly bribed Joe and Hunter Biden allegedly has...

WASHINGTON - Al-Qaida has identified a would-be 20th hijacker for the Sept. 11 attacks as a Saudi operative who was killed in a 2004 shootout with his country's security forces. In a statement accompanying a new video, the terrorist network's propaganda arm identified Fawaz al-Nashimi, also known as Turki bin Fuheid al-Muteiry, as the operative who would have rounded out a team that ultimately took over United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed into a Pennsylvania field before reaching its intended target. A 54-minute video featuring al-Nashimi was obtained Tuesday by IntelCenter, a U.S. government contractor based in Virginia. U.S counterterrorism...

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) made a Senate floor speech Monday afternoon on the controversy about the FD-1023 FBI document that contains credible allegation that Joe Biden received a $5 million bribe from an executive with the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma while vice president. In the speech Grassley said the the version of the FD-1023 shown the House Oversight Committee last week was heavily redacted, but that Grassley had seen one with far fewer redactions. He then revealed that the foreign national behind the bribe said he kept audio recordings of conversations with Joe Biden (2) and Hunter Biden (15). There...

Sen. Chuck Grassley said Monday that the Burisma executive who allegedly paid Joe Biden and Hunter Biden kept 17 audio recordings of his conversations with them as an "insurance policy," citing the FBI FD-1023 form that the bureau briefed congressional lawmakers on. Grassley, R-Iowa, revealed from the Senate floor Monday what was said to be a redacted reference in the FBI-generated FD-1023 form alleging a criminal bribery scheme between then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national that involved influence over U.S. policy decisions. Grassley said the FD-1023 has a redacted reference that the Burisma executive possesses fifteen audio recordings...

The Democrat-led House Select Committee to Investigate Jan. 6 doctored a key piece of its evidence, adding audio to silent U.S. Capitol Police security footage used to create a dramatic video montage for the opening of its primetime hearings last summer, according to a Just the News review of the original raw footage and interviews. In at least two instances identified by Just the News, the panel's sizzle reel that aired live and on C-SPAN last June failed to identify that it had overdubbed audio from another, unidentified source onto the silent footage. Multiple current and former Capitol Police officials...

I have hearing loss. I get by with earbuds and subtitles, but I could use help. I imagine many people could benefit from this. I believe it’s possible to boost volume, because I have VLC Media Player, which boosts volume enormously. However, it only seems to work on DVDs. So, I still need help in boosting volume on internet videos and streams. An internet search yielded the BOOM 3D add-on, but reviews say its Volume Booster only works in Macs. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15-3501, running Windows 11. I’ve searched Windows Settings and Registry Editor for help, without...

Ok, so I'm behind on computer tech: So far as I can tell, most current desktop and laptop computers have gone to* a single (TRRS) Tip-Ring-Ring-Sleeve audio jack (plug) for audio in and out, configured as: Tip = Out/Left, Outer Ring = Out/Right, Inner Ring = Ground, Sleeve = Mic/In. Well, hooey bluey, this means there's no stereo line input... Is the best option to use a stereo-line-to-USB adaptor?**

I was browsing the November 2023 Costco savings booklet. I noticed a Bose SE 45 Quiet Comfort headphones on sale on Black Friday Weekend for $219. This seems like a decent discount from the prices I have seen at Amazon and similar sites. I have never owned a high-quality pair of headphones. I am not an audiophile. This would be what I am looking for: 1: Comfort: I would wear these multiple hours during the day at my desk. 2: Sturdiness: The reason I have not invested in good headphones is I tend to abuse them, or they were poorly...
