Gen. Stanley McChrystal left the White House on Wednesday morning after meeting for approximately half an hour with President Barack Obama. SNIP Obama is expected to make remarks on the situation in Afghanistan and McChrystal's fate at approximately 11:35 a.m., following a meeting with his war advisors. It's not clear whether McChrystal, a normal participant in those meetings, will return to the White House to participate.

President Barack Obama would have fired BP's CEO Tony Hayward over controversial comments downplaying the Gulf oil spill — if the executive had been working for him. During an interview with Matt Lauer on NBC's TODAY broadcast Tuesday, the president added his voice to calls for Hayward's resignation amid claims from a former EPA lawyer that BP is a "recurring environmental criminal."
