A power failure knocked out the security system at a federal germ lab in Fort Collins for 13 hours Monday and disabled freezers housing thousands of vials of plague and other potential bioweapons. A backup generator kicked on when the power failed. But an electrical short prevented the backup power from being routed through the building, said Colorado State University spokesman Brad Bohlander. As a result, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention laboratory was without power for 13 hours, beginning at 3:07 p.m. Monday, Bohlander said. CSU owns the building and leases it to the government. No germ collections were...

For the first time in years, there is an emerging consensus that the biggest racket in national politics deserves to end. Earlier this month, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and 10 other Republican senators held a luncheon summit at the White House with President Trump with the goal of drastically reforming the Renewable Fuel Standard, the federal mandate that annually funnels $13.5 billion from the wallets of American fuel and food consumers into the coffers of agribusiness giants. Before the national nightmare of Obamacare, there was the RFS, the most sweeping and intrusive federal intervention in the American economy undertaken in...

TruthRevolt has been following feminist blogger Jody Allard who admitted she was afraid of her own sons. Her piece, called, "My teen boys are blind to rape culture," caused her non-raping/non-abusive sons to be nationally humiliated. Allard wrote about one son's reaction: He doesn't understand why I lumped him and his brother together in my essay. He sees himself as the "good" one, the one who is sensitive and thoughtful, and who listens instead of reacts. He doesn't understand that even quiet misogyny is misogyny, and that not all sexists sound like Twitter trolls. He is angry at me now,...

When men encounter feminism, they seek the truth. Recently TruthRevolt reported on feminist Jody Allard's Washington Post article in which she admitted she was afraid of her own sons. Her piece, called, "My teen boys are blind to rape culture," humiliated her sons... who aren't actually sexists or rapists. Later, Allard wrote about their reaction: He doesn't understand why I lumped him and his brother together in my essay. He sees himself as the "good" one, the one who is sensitive and thoughtful, and who listens instead of reacts. He doesn't understand that even quiet misogyny is misogyny, and...

A former U.S. senator in Colorado sees parallels between billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer’s meddling in current Senate elections in the state and his hedge fund’s efforts to drain a small Colorado town’s water supply and sell it to the highest bidder. Former Sen. Wayne Allard (R., Colo.) ... In 1995 Tom Steyer descended on Colorado, standing to make millions by exporting the water under the San Luis Valley and selling it to the highest bidder. Draining this particular aquifer would have had disastrous consequences for farms, wetlands and the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Impact from Steyer’s plan would have...

Cold political play could cost him the election -- The Benghazi debacle may yet make Mitt Romney president. Barely 10 days before the election, the persistent whiff of scandal surrounding Barack Obama exploded into the banner headlines of a cover-up – at least among certain press outlets. Everything changed Friday afternoon with the stunning revelations by Fox News that CIA operatives defending the embattled consulate in Benghazi, Libya, called three times for emergency assistance while the attack was in progress. Each time, they were shamefully turned down. One of those defenders, Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, was apparently able to use a...

Crude Mistake By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY Posted Friday, May 16, 2008 Energy: With the price of oil spiking above $127 a barrel, the search for scapegoats has begun. Some point to the Saudis, OPEC's No. 1 producer. Others blame the oil companies. We have a better candidate: Congress. As President Bush traveled to Saudi Arabia to ask the House of Saud to open the oil spigots a bit wider, Congress showed once again how clueless it is when it comes to energy policy. Underscoring its failure to grasp the nature of our current problems, the Senate Appropriations Committee on Friday...

Late Wednesday afternoon, Sen.Wayne Allard (R-Co.) introduced Amendment 4246 into the Senate budget debate. The amendment, which Allard calls “The Obama Spend-o-Rama” proposes funding 111 of the 188 spending proposals put out so far during Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) presidential campaign. (These were the proposals which Allard’s staff had time to analyze before the GOP leadership asked him to offer the amendment on the floor.) According to Allard, “There are another 77 proposals with unknown cost estimates that will add billions to this number.” (Click here to read Senator Allard’s Fiscal Responsibility Floor Statement.) Allard freely admits that he will...

Why return to the Air Force Academy after Winter Break? So after our sunburns have faded and the memories of our winter break have been reduced to pictures we've pinned on our deskboards, and once again we've exchanged T-shirts and swim suits for flight suits and camouflage, there still remains the question that every cadet at U.S.Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs has asked themselves at some point: Why did we come back? Why, after spending two weeks with our family would we return to one of the most demanding lifestyles in the country? After listening to our 'friends' who...

The first negative ads in the race for Colorado's open U.S. Senate seat did not come from candidates Mark Udall and Bob Schaffer but from an independent group with ties to Republicans. Common Sense Issues Inc. targeted Democratic Rep. Mark Udall on national security and his pro-environment record. Udall, a Democrat, and Schaffer, a former Republican congressman, are running to replace retiring Republican Sen. Wayne Allard. One ad criticizes Udall for co-sponsoring a 2001 bill to establish an $8 billion Cabinet-level Department of Peace. It features a dialogue with one man saying, "Radical Islam wants Americans dead" before asking, "What...

U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar expressed disappointment this morning at the demise of the immigration reform bill, blaming "poison stemming from some members of the Senate" and predicting continuing crisis for the country's "broken" immigration system. Colorado's other U.S. senator, Republican Wayne Allard, issued a statement calling the bill as proposed "amnesty in its simplest form," and said the American people "demand and deserve better." Allard voted with the majority ... With the bill's collapse, Allard called for a greater focus on border security. "Porous borders and lax enforcement present major security risks to our country," Allard said. "Instead of enacting...

Former Rep. Bob Schaffer (R-Colo.) said Saturday at a Lincoln Day Dinner that he would run for U.S. Senate in 2008... Speaking at a small dinner in Teller County, Schaffer told a crowd of about 100 ... “He announced that we were the first to know that he is a candidate,” said County Commissioner and former county Republican Party Chairman Bob Campbell. Campbell added that Schaffer said a formal announcement and release would be coming at a later date. Current Teller County Republican Party Chairman Mark Sievers also confirmed Schaffer’s announcement: “He did say that. He was unequivocal.”

A year ago, Dick Wadhams never thought he’d be back in Colorado full time trying to resurrect the state Republican Party. Wadhams, the silver-tongued Las Animas native who has led upset campaigns across the country, expected to be getting Virginia Sen. George Allen prepped for his presidential run. That was before Allen made his infamous “macaca” remark amid what should have been an easy reelection bid, and suddenly both he and Wadhams, his press secretary, found themselves out of their jobs. One week after that debacle, Wadhams fielded a call from Colorado Senate Minority Leader Andy McElhany, who suggested that...

Ex-congressman files paperwork, says unity is key. Former Colorado Rep. Scott McInnis took a first formal step Monday toward running for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard... The Grand Junction Republican announced he is forming an exploratory committee and has filed necessary paperwork. He said he does not expect to make a formal announcement until later this year. "We're at the very beginning of this,"... McInnis said he is starting to assemble a campaign... McInnis has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the seat since Allard announced in January that he would keep a term-limit pledge...

In protest of NBC's lack of action after NBC News military analyst William Arkin used his WashingtonPost.com blog to describe U.S. soldiers as "mercenaries" enjoying "obscene amenities" for ungratefully daring to criticize Americans for not supporting the war effort, retired Colonel Ken Allard last week resigned his position as a military analyst for NBC News. In a February 16 op-ed for the San Antonio Express-News, "NBC sinks too low for this talking head," Allard, an "executive-in residence" at the University of Texas at San Antonio, regretted that "sometimes the only way to show where you really stand is to vote...

Former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway will always be remembered by Coloradoans as the orchestrator of “The Drive” — a 98-yard touchdown march in the closing moments of the 1987 American Football Conference Championship game. Whether the Hall-of-Famer and statewide sports hero has the drive to score a big win for Colorado Republicans in 2008 is another matter, and it’s the subject of growing speculation now that Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) is not running. Elway’s office at the Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League said yesterday that Elway “has no intentions of running,” and observers say a 2008 Senate...

DENVER - Sen. Wayne Allard announced Monday that he will not seek a third term next year, ending months of speculation and triggering a frenzied rush to replace him. Allard, speaking in the rotunda of the Capitol where he began his political career as a state senator in 1983, said that although a large number of Republicans asked him to run again, he never wavered on the two-termlimit vow he made in 1996. “We didn’t hesitate at ever thinking we weren’t going to keep our pledge,” the 63-year-old said of him- self and his wife, Joan, who stood beside him....

WASHINGTON — Sen. Wayne Allard said today he will honor his term-limits pledge and leave at the end of 2008, creating a replacement fight that should turn Colorado into one of the country’s biggest electoral battlegrounds. "I just didn't think I could back away from the (term limits) commitment."

Family, fortitude to dictate Allard's 2008 Senate plans By M.E. Sprengelmeyer, Rocky Mountain News November 27, 2006 WASHINGTON - Sen. Wayne Allard is about to face the biggest decision of his political life, but it's really not so complicated, friends and political pundits say. They acknowledge countless factors he'll consider before deciding whether to seek re-election in 2008. He could mull his old term-limits pledge, consider the Democratic tilt of the recent elections, ponder the benefits of his seniority and his seat on the powerful Appropriations Committee, weigh the polling numbers, and start thinking about ramping up his fundraising machine....
