The Obama administration on Tuesday will wade into the increasingly divisive national debate over new voting laws in several states that could depress turnout among minorities and others who helped elect the president in 2008. Â… With the presidential campaign heating up,Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. will deliver a speech Tuesday expressing concerns about the voter-identification laws, along with a Texas redistricting plan before the Supreme Court that fails to take into account the stateÂ’s burgeoning Hispanic population, he said in an interview Monday. Holder will speak at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Libary and Museum in Austin, Tex.,...

Thousands of non-citizens are registered to vote in some states, and tens if not hundreds of thousands may be present on the voter rolls nationwide. These numbers are significant. Local elections are often decided by only a handful of votes, and even national elections have likely been within the margin of the number of non-citizens illegally registered to vote. Yet there is no reliable method to determine the number of non-citizens registered or actually voting. Federal and state officials must increase their efforts to enforce laws against non-citizen voting that are already on the books. Every vote cast by a...

As if to add insult to injury, it was reported after 9/11 that some of the hijackers had obtained state issued drivers licenses. When I first heard the news, I could hardly believe it. Not only did the terrorists kill hundreds of people, but they mocked our lax security to boot. The problem is not with the licenses themselves, but that they are considered a legal document in which to open a bank account, rent a car, and yes, get on an airplane and take it over. The same type of problem can be found with your Social Security number....

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 - For months, the would-be revolutionaries plotted strategy and lobbied local politicians here with the age-old plea, "No taxation without representation!" Last month, some of the unlikely insurgents - Ethiopian-born restaurateurs, travel agents and real estate developers in sober business suits - declared that victory finally seemed within reach. Five City Council members announced their support for a bill that would allow thousands of immigrants to vote in local elections here, placing the nation's capital among a handful of cities across the country in the forefront of efforts to offer voting rights to noncitizens. "It will happen,''...

SAN FRANCISCO -- Republican Senate candidate Bill Jones railed on Monday against a ballot measure that would grant noncitizens here the right to vote in school board elections, calling it a "slap in the face" to U.S. citizenship and the country's immigration laws. Speaking on the steps of San Francisco City Hall, the former secretary of state said the charter amendment would violate the California Constitution and erode public confidence in the electoral process. He said encouraging immigrants to become citizens is the best way to expand voter participation. "I will vehemently oppose any attempt to grant Californians' precious right...

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's supervisors agreed Tuesday to place before voters in November a proposal allowing people who are not U.S. citizens to vote in school board elections. If voters approve the City Charter amendment, San Francisco would become the first jurisdiction in California to allow people who are not U.S. citizens to cast ballots in any election.

Are the taxpayers of Democrat-run San Francisco stupid enough to let foreign lawbreakers vote? The girlie-men pols on the Board of Supervisors hope so. Of course, masses of illegal aliens have voted illegally for years, to the delight of the likes of Al Gore, but now the kookiest city in America wants to decriminalize and even celebrate such actions. The board voted 9-2 on Tuesday to place a charter amendment on the November ballot that would allow non-citizens, illegal as well as legal, to vote if they have children in the city's costly but failed government school monopoly. "This is...

SAN JOSE, Calif. - (KRT) - The San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Tuesday agreed to place a controversial ballot measure on the November ballot that could make the city the first in California to allow non-citizens to vote in local school board elections. Under the proposed charter amendment change, parents or guardians of children in San Francisco schools - including undocumented immigrants - would be allowed to vote. "I believe this is important because it further democratizes our society," said board president Matt Gonzalez, author of the initiative. The board voted 9-2 to place the measure on the ballot...

Today, millions of Californians are expected to exercise their right to vote. Voter franchise is the key component in our representative government; its sanctity should be paramount. Yet since the rise of big city machine politics and mass immigration in the 19th century the use of voter fraud to influence elections has threatened this fundamental right. This threat has turned into a full-fledged frontal assault in our time. More disturbing than the mass media's refusal to broach the topic is the determination of politicians to continually flout, not only the people's will, but to also the 15th amendment to...
