Are the taxpayers of Democrat-run San Francisco stupid enough to let foreign lawbreakers vote? The girlie-men pols on the Board of Supervisors hope so.
Of course, masses of illegal aliens have voted illegally for years, to the delight of the likes of Al Gore, but now the kookiest city in America wants to decriminalize and even celebrate such actions.
The board voted 9-2 on Tuesday to place a charter amendment on the November ballot that would allow non-citizens, illegal as well as legal, to vote if they have children in the city's costly but failed government school monopoly. "This is important because it further democratizes our society," huffed board president Matt Gonzalez. He wrote the measure partly as a response to what he called "the post-Sept. 11, anti-immigrant sentiment that has taken hold in much of the rest of the country."
Note to Gonzalez: An immigrant is someone who has gone through legal channels. That doesn't include illegal aliens, and it's a severe insult to America's immigrants to lump them in with criminals.
If you think it's only border states such as California that force taxpayers to fund illegal aliens' schooling, you're sadly mistaken. North Carolina's government high schools, for example, graduated as many as 1,450 illegal aliens this year, the Associated Press reported last week. Urban Institute estimates that 65,000 illegal aliens graduated nationwide this year. Those figures don't even include all the drop-outs.
Fortunately, AP reported today that San Francisco's latest scheme has already generated opposition. "The city attorney advised supervisors that it if the measure is subjected to a legal challenge, a court would likely find it in conflict with the state constitution, which requires voters to be U.S. citizens."
One of the city's two sensible supervisors, Fiona Ma, said: "There is no question that improving our schools should be a priority for this body. But expanding voting rights to non-citizens does nothing to further those ends."
Incidentally, it's apparent that San Francisco has a much softer spot for foreign lawbreakers than for America's president. Residents will also vote in November on whether to "demand" that President Bush bring all U.S. troops home from Iraq.
When he refuses, we look forward to seeing and hearing the world's most hilarious hissy fit
Please correct the typo Carl Lombacher to Carl Limbacher. Thanks in advance
Liberals are trying to start a brush fire to burn down our house.
This is seditious.
The other being Tony Hall.
The liberals are filth
This sounds like more of the usual from the menly-girls of the left.
We have always known the democrats to be the desperate sort who bring in the illegal, the felonious and the dead.
Anything for a dimpled chad.
They're not alone. Las Vegas has had a 40% increase in the Mexican population since the last election. According to News 5, we have the fastest growing latino population in the United States. So our State decided they needed instruction in how to vote. Imagine their amazement when only TWO showed up to register and learn about our voting system. It didn't occur to the imbeciles that most of them are illegal, and they're afraid to come forward.
I guess that's why our taxes have risen sky high across the board...we need to subsidize all of that cheap labor, ya know.
Start bussing in Tories from Alberta.
Of course they do, because the political girlie-men know how the illegal aliens will vote. We're talking leftist landslides here!
If continued, this will result in civil war.
Great, Hispanic Queers
For years we've been told that Calif was going to slide into the ocean when the big one, the big earthquake hits.
GOD, please make this happen soon.
Excellent idea!
They know they can only win by cheating and playing every dirty handed trick in the book.
Perhaps it's time to plan another tea party!
Willie Brown on O'Reilly, "You gotta' be careful how you use the words, 'illegal aliens'."
Just as bad down here in Florida :Get this classes English as a second Language.. What the hell is going on?? Time for some to be going back home..
Too bad SF's supervisors didn't have as much sense as Fiona Ma.
On the other hand, maybe the majority supervisors had a political motive: having this measure on the ballot might bring out more SF voters, both in support and in opposition. Overall, the result will be to increase votes for Kerry and for Nader.
