Federal authorities Thursday designated the notorious Mara Salvatrucha MS-13 as a “transnational criminal organization,” giving federal authorities more tools to fight the street gang that has its roots in Los Angeles. More workers in Mexico have died from their wounds following a blast that set off a blaze at a gas plant, bringing the death toll to 30. Twenty-five people are still in hospital.
