How Charlie Kirk Changed Conservative Media — and American Politics
CNN ^ | 9/10 | Brian Stelter , and Liam Reilly

Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed on Wednesday, pioneered a new model for conservative political advocacy, merging multi-platform media commentary with in-person gatherings and get-out-the-vote drives.

Kirk, 31, was a hugely successful political field organizer, TikTok influencer, radio host, nonprofit leader and public speaker all rolled up in one telegenic figure. One minute, Kirk would be on Fox News promoting his friend President Trump’s agenda; the next, he would be on X or Instagram, inviting young people to start conservative groups at their high schools and college campuses.

With Turning Point USA, the nonprofit he co-founded in 2012 at age 18, Kirk built a next generation grassroots operation that was plugged directly into the GOP, much to the envy of his Democratic rivals.

I wasn’t a fan, not my style.

But no doubt he had an impact and was a smart guy.

I also think that he did a better job at making kids think than most of the leftist monotone and intellectually sterile college professors that only present one side.

This point should have been the focus of the article rather than a late throw-in:

“I’m trying to be proactive about encouraging dialogue between people who disagree,” he told a CNN reporter in 2021.

What he did was really remarkable. He'd go into the belly of the progressive beast in campuses all across the country, and have open, unscripted conversations with anyone who cared to step up to a microphone. No script, just his own wits, and usually badly outnumbered by the leftists who would come to see him fail.

He was an incredible young man who set a fantastic example for everyone who believed in this country's founding principle of free and open debate, and resolving disputes peaceably rather than through violence.

I hope to hell this wakes up a lot of those "swing" voters as to what the left is really about.

Who cares what CNN writes and why are you polluting this form with it and besmirching the memory of Charlie Kirk with it.

This is abusive. They caused this and I’m sure there is more violence to come. The democrat party should be declared a terrorist organization. CNN is nothing more than the media arm of terrorists.

I don’t think Charlie Kirk would agree with you. He made a career of taking on, not shutting down, his opponents’ freedom of speech. He didn’t run away from or cower amid their nonsense- he waded right into it and made them the poster children of insane liberal causes. He often illustrated the flaws using their own words, letting them paint themselves into the corner.

You don’t need to be afraid of leftwing junk. Mr. Kirk wasn’t. If you don’t want to read it, that’s ok, you can always choose for yourself not to read it and skip over threads with sources you don’t approve of. What you shouldn’t do is presume to choose for everyone else what can or cannot be posted here to be read. That privilege is only the site owner’s, if he chooses to exercise it.

When he first started the crowd was all against him. My son saw him at Northridge last semester and said there was a huge crowd and everybody was on Charlie’s side just waiting to watch him demolition the few liberals that stepped up to ask him a question. RIP Charlie Kirk

These CNN guys are dispicable, trying to appear sad about Charlie Kirk's murder.

Kirk was Socrates, trying to honestly armwrestle with the atheist heathen communists on campuses.

But he was gentlemanly and honorable. He was nice and polite. He was trying to win them over.

They on the other hand were not civil. They were often boorish and their arguments were so flimsy that they just embarrassed themselves.

Universities are huge, necessary, timeless, public places that many or most people need to access to be educated at reasonable cost and credentialled so as to get on with their lives.

Kirk realized that we can't surrender the universities to the Communists, nor can we let the Communists indoctrinate the young there without challenge.

To give up would be unthinkable to him.

The side effect of his engagement was that he deflated and destroyed the indoctrination in a very intelligent and durable manner, enough to convince a LOT of young people to be conservative.

And at age 31, he was just getting warmed up. He posed a HUGE threat to Communism here and internationally.

So who funded this murder? We will soon know. And his huge 'legacy' is that he un-hoodwinked a critical mass of young people, who now see the techniques and lies of the Communists and atheists.

Thank the Almighty for Charlie Kirk and his boundless energy and love of God and his fellow man.

Not just American politics.

Note the timing of Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

Our free speech event on Saturday is more important than ever. @charliekirk11 being murdered is not a reason to be scared & not to attend , it’s actually the opposite. Charlie stood for me , Charlie stood for Britain & on the 13th Britain will stand to honour him 🇬🇧 🇺🇸. Free speech matters
