KEY FACTS
Since calling the strike on November 13, the company’s highly trafficked “Red Cup Day” when it gives away free reusable coffee cups to customers, Starbucks Workers United reports new stores have been added to its strike list each passing week, now totaling 120 stores.
SWU claims that baristas in 550 unionized stores are prepared to continue escalating the strike until Starbucks delivers a fair union contract and resolves hundreds of unfair labor practices charges.
Since the strike began, Starbucks has disputed the number of stores impacted, claiming many stores on the strike list never closed and others have since reopened.
Despite more than 125,000 people who’ve signed the “No Contract, No Coffee” pledge, Starbucks reported this year’s “Red Cup Day” was its biggest sales day in company history.
Currently, the two parties are not negotiating, after spending nearly 200 hours in negotiations and reaching more than 30 tentative agreements, through April this year.

Oh no!! I have $10 bill in my pocket just waiting for a cup of coffee!
Why can’t Starbuck’s just tell the union to kick rocks and put up help wanted signs?
These aren’t hard to replace experienced aircraft mechanics.
Fire them all.
The obvious solution is to just to replace these low-skilled workers until AI robots replace them all.
the retail prices are so sky-high already that Star*ucks would lose patronage if it had to pay even higher wages
we had to pay $18.15 for two very small plain coffees and a half-sized pastry that (this time, anyway) really wasn’t very good (they’re usually better)
unreasonable already
Exactly, a robot can make a coffee.
I’ve been on strike against Starbuck’s since the first time I went in there in 2015.
I did not know Starbucks was unionized.
Not to be all doom and gloom, but could this thing grow into a “black swan” event that finally makes everything explode regarding the economy, jobs and wages?
That’s about how long it’s been for me. Overpriced burned coffee. No thanks.
“Why can’t Starbuck’s just tell the union to kick rocks and put up help wanted signs?”
federal law from the era of FDR
I used to say to my daughters back in the early nineties, that if you can’t say one of these things, you’ll never own your own home:
1. I own my own business.
2. I’m a successful salesperson
3. You can’t pull a random person off the street and teach them my job in a couple of weeks.
These people are in entry level jobs. To improve their life they need to learn a marketable and decent paying skill - or start their own business.
This would be a good time for people to start patronizing their locally owned espresso stands and cafes. I make my own latte at home each morning but when I do need to buy one, I always go to a local espresso stand. Better coffee at a lower price and I’m supporting someone local and not someone in Seattle.
For me it’s not just starbucks. It’s ALL of the coffee shops. Heck, I love what my Keurig produces. And when I’m on road trips I’m very happy with the coffee at Love’s and Pilot. They’ve seriously upped their game, though Buck-ees comes in a close second.
It’s called Mr. Coffee.
Mental retards.
Who the hell wants to make a career of serving coffee? Are they going to unionize 7-eleven stores and Dunkin Donut shops? What about the street vendors, hot dog stands and Pizzeria’s?
I don’t drink anything from a place that sounds like a gay bar. And since when did pouring coffee become a career choice? I use to work in a coffee shop in the early 1980s when I was in High school. I would shoot myself if I was still doing that.
My older brother once said to me when I was in my 20's, if you don't own your own house by the time you're 30, you're a loser.
I live in a small town that doesn’t even have a starbucks. There are three local places but, to be frank, they are just like Starbucks - overpriced. I just make my own at home.
