A useful rule of thumb is that when a problem persists for decades despite serious effort, the failure is usually not one of effort or intelligence, but of framing. Climate change sits squarely in this category. We have poured talent, capital, policy, and good intentions into solving it, and yet the core dynamics continue to worsen. This suggests that something foundational is off in how we are thinking about the problem. One of the clearest illustrations of that deeper issue sits far from financial centers and climate summits, in the Arctic. About 50 years ago, Denmark made a decision that...

Democratic Virginia state Sen. Lamont Bagby claimed Thursday that watching “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “The Andy Griffith Show” and “The Waltons” as a child taught him about rural America. (snip)“And listen, I almost took issue with the other side saying that we don’t understand [rural America],” Bagby said during the floor debate. “But I grew up watching ‘The Waltons,’ I grew up with Opie [the son of a sheriff played by Andy Griffith], I even watched the ‘Dukes of Hazzard.’ I think I know a little bit about rural America.”

Retail giant Nike has announced a fresh wave of job cuts, slashing around 1,400 roles on Thursday in a move set to send shockwaves through its workforce. The latest layoffs - which are understood to fall heavily on its technology division - come as the sportswear behemoth pushes ahead with a major overhaul aimed at sharpening its competitive edge. Bosses insist the cuts form part of its aggressive 'Win Now' strategy, designed to streamline operations and position the company for future growth in an increasingly challenging retail landscape.

In 1995, ‘Adam’ Hisham Hamawy testified for the defense in the trial of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman: the Egyptian Islamic terror leader linked to the World Trade Center bombing. Now, Hamawy is running for Congress in New Jersey while promising to defund the military, abolish ICE, and dismantle the Department of Homeland Security. Hamawy, an Egyptian Muslim currently working as a plastic surgeon in New Jersey, has been in the news more recently for his Gaza advocacy, demanding that Israel stop its military campaign against Hamas, and in his recent interview with Hasan Piker, a Turkish social media influencer who...

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God" (Matt. 5:9). Christ’s atonement made it possible for man to be at peace with God. After World War II the United Nations was created to promote world peace. But since its inception in 1945 there has not been a single day of global peace. That's a sad commentary on man's inability to make peace. In fact, someone once quipped that Washington D.C. has so many peace monuments because they build one after every war! It hasn't always been that way. Prior to the Fall of man peace reigned...

Daily Readings from the USCCB“Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink his Blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my Flesh is true food, and my Blood is true drink.” John 6:53–55Human reason and free will are the most precious natural gifts God gave us. They are what separate us from every other animal. Human reason enables us to think critically, understand concepts, and arrive at conclusions....

FIRST ON FOX: A Minnesota Republican lawmaker is demanding answers from Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., after the Democrat failed to appear at a state hearing examining her potential connections to the sprawling pandemic-era fraud scandal. State Rep. Kristin Robbins, chair of the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee, sent a formal letter to Omar on April 22 criticizing her absence from a scheduled committee hearing she was invited to and requesting extensive documentation related to the "Feeding Our Future" investigation that has gained national attention in recent months. "Minnesotans and the Members of the House Fraud Prevention &...

A small group in the House of Lords has proposed hundreds of amendments that are helping stymie a bill that was meant to legalize medically assisted death for the terminally ill. Six hundred and eighty-eight. That is the number of amendments that just seven members of Britain’s House of Lords have proposed to a bill that was meant to legalize assisted dying for the terminally ill. So many amendments have been lodged — more than 1,280 in total — that the bill now seems doomed to fail, in a rare example of the Lords, Parliament’s unelected second chamber, blocking a...

Missionaries in Vienna, Austria, launched Eastern European Mission in 1961 to smuggle Bibles in all the languages of the Soviet World — Hungarian, Romanian, Polish and Russian, to name a few. Farsi wasn’t on the list. Workers with EEM are preparing not only to supply more Bibles for Iranians in Europe but also to send God’s Word into Iran itself. “We cannot wait for that moment and then start deciding what to do,” said Bob Burckle, EEM’s president. “The Bible already exists in the languages many Iranian people can read,” and depending on the outcome of the current conflict, “the...

Alan Osmond, an original member of the Osmonds, a group of singing brothers known for their pop records and wholesome image — and for their siblings Donny and Marie, who became the biggest stars of the family — died on Monday at his home in Salt Lake City. He was 76. His brother Merrill announced the death on Facebook. Debbie Ihler Rasmussen, who collaborated with Mr. Osmond on his 2024 autobiography, “Alan Osmond: One Way Ticket,” said the cause was complications of multiple sclerosis. The Osmonds began as a quartet in the late 1950s, with the brothers Merrill, Wayne, Jay...

Turning Point USA CEO and chair Erika Kirk helped organize the White House listening session this month that put disgruntled Make America Healthy Again advocates in the same room with President Donald Trump, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and their leading advisers, according to two people inside the Trump administration and two people familiar with the meeting, granted anonymity to discuss the details. It’s one of the first and most prominent examples of Kirk helping the Trump administration keep its coalition together ahead of what is expected to be a difficult midterm election cycle. Some of Kirk' supporters see...

On April 18, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was alerted to a family who was searching for a 49-year-old woman. The woman, who had a traumatic brain injury, was reported missing after she failed to return home from a walk. Authorities searched for hours but had no luck tracking the woman down. That’s when deputies decided to call in Keva and Naji, two bloodhounds they hoped could help lead them to the woman. Working off a scent from the woman’s pillow, Naji and Keva set off quickly, hot on the trail. “She’s on a 15-foot leash attached to her...

“Smoke drifts into Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia, as air quality declines and 50 homes destroyed. Wildfires burning across the south-eastern US intensified on Wednesday across parts of south-east Georgia, where 50 homes were destroyed, and across north-east Florida, forcing evacuations and school closures in some communities. The Georgia forestry commission issued its first mandatory burn ban in the state’s history, effective across 91 counties in the lower half of the state, due to worsening drought conditions and rising wildfire activity.”
