Kovalev et al. ==================================================================================== A cosmic jet aimed at Earth reveals how blazars hurl particles to extreme energies, solving a long-standing mystery. Key Points * A glimpse into a galaxy’s core: Astronomers have captured a detailed image of the birthplace of a powerful cosmic jet. With its artificial colors, the view strikingly resembles the legendary “Eye of Sauron.” * The neutrino puzzle: PKS 1424+240 stands out as the brightest known source of neutrinos of its...

New research indicates that caffeine consumption is associated with subsequent increases in positive affect, and this association is strongest within the first 2.5 hours after awakening (i.e., in the morning).Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that is used by approximately 80% of the world’s population and consumed in a wide variety of forms, including beverages like coffee, tea, soda (e.g., coke), and energy drinks, but also in food items such as chocolate,” said Bielefeld University researcher Justin Hachenberger and his colleagues. “Positive expectations related to caffeine consumption include reduced tiredness and fatigue, enhanced cognitive and physical performance, and a...

The return of the Russian battlecruiser Admiral Nakhimov, after 26 years in refit, does not signify a significant change in naval capability, but rather symbolizes the decline of industrial capabilities. Its primary role will likely be symbolic “show-the-flag” cruises, not high-end combat. However, its status as a high-profile emblem of Russian power raises a provocative new question: Could it become a target for Ukraine’s daring special operators, similar to past attacks on the Nordstream pipeline or Russian bomber bases?

In Federalist Number 70, one of the most often-cited of the Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton famously made his pitch for a strong unitary executive as provided for in the then-proposed Constitution: Energy in the Executive is a leading character in the definition of good government. It is essential to the protection of the community against foreign attacks; it is not less essential to the steady administration of the laws; to the protection of property against those irregular and high-handed combinations which sometimes interrupt the ordinary course of justice; to the security of liberty against the enterprises and assaults of ambition,...

“Virtually everything the administration is doing is pro-crime.” On August 3, someone was shot about five blocks from my house in Washington, DC. Just two nights before, we had called 911 because of gunfire nearby—not an unusual occurrence. A week later, someone was murdered six or seven blocks away, in broad daylight. My neighborhood also has the usual urban scourges: porch pirates, the CVS where everything is under lock and key, the ATV drivers who roar up and down the street doing wheelies and terrorizing motorists and pedestrians alike. President Donald Trump has recently decided he would save us from...

Rep. Riley Moore (R-WV) sent a letter to President Donald Trump Thursday urging him to award Patrick J. Buchanan the Presidential Medal of Freedom, The American Conservative has learned. “Honoring Patrick J. Buchanan with the Presidential Medal of Freedom would recognize his role as one of the truest patriots of the past century,” Moore told TAC in an exclusive statement. “His unrelenting focus on the forgotten men and women of America paved the way for President Trump’s America First Movement. He was right about pretty much everything 20 years before most people realized it and should be honored for defending...

I am a Black man, a Democrat and the youngest person ever elected to the Newark City Council. I am a small-business owner and entrepreneur dedicated to rebuilding urban communities across the country. I stay active in Newark every political cycle, and I am a known and trusted neighborhood organizer within the city where I was born and raised. I have been trying to find a rationale to vote for Mikie Sherrill — and, frankly, as an African American, I just can't do it, and neither can many Blacks in New Jersey

One of my struggles as a self-declared decent person is the tug between my intellectual abhorrence of Islam and my response at a personal level when I see Muslim women walking about with their hair hidden under hijabs. I would never insult or belittle such women to their faces, and I would treat them with courtesy and respect. But I can’t help but think that at some point, there might be so many hijabs walking around that we stand in real danger of being forced to submit to sharia law. We would have to look the other way as Islam’s...

Washington, D.C. denizens are breathing a sigh of relief -- at least those not suffering Trump Derangement Syndrome. Just the other day, Veep Vance, Pete Hegseth, and White House powerhouse Stephen Miller went to Union Station. They thanked National Guardsmen for their part in stopping crime in Washington. A gaggle of usual suspects -- pampered, “progressive” whites -- showed up to protest. But they don’t count. Crime is plummeting in our nation’s capitol. Let’s underscore that: Our nation’s capitol. The District of Columbia belongs to all of us citizens. We have a right to expect the district to be safe....

When the driver arrived, he refused to allow Kobel's 17-pound goldendoodle - a licensed service dog - in the vehicle. Kobel said he then calmly asked to cancel the ride and seconds later, the driver snapped. Security footage shows Uliumdzhiev storming out of his Audi SUV and confronting Kobel before suddenly head-butting him in the face and landing a punch that dropped the CEO cold. Kobel's dog crashed to the ground with him as bystanders watched in horror.

Let’s assume peace in Ukraine—granted, a very big-ticket axiom. In our premise, we may include the speculation that Ukraine has ceded, de facto if not formally, at least some of the territory conquered by Russia in the course of the last three years; those who insist that something like total Ukrainian victory is achievable sound suspiciously similar to those who thought the Afghanistan occupation was indefinitely sustainable, and may be safely disregarded for the sake of the exercise.

Cracker Barrel (“CB”) recently announced with great pride (pun intended) that they have become woke and are implementing customer-facing DEI throughout their restaurant chain, a project that has been in the works for about a year. Proving once more that idealistic leftists are oblivious to anything remotely involving sanity. The Left never seems to learn. Their DEI agenda is so important that they willingly crater their own businesses. Even Left-leaning news channels and their famous anchors have learned that they are not immune to this effect. I have doubts about the success of this new direction, for a couple of...

FBI agents raided former Trump National Security Advisor John Bolton’s DC-area home Friday morning in a high-profile national security probe, The Post can exclusively reveal. Federal agents busted into Bolton’s house in Bethesda, Md., at 7 a.m. in an investigation ordered by FBI Director Kash Patel, a Trump administration official told The Post. “NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission,” he said in a cryptic post to X shortly after the raid began. The probe — which is said to involve classified documents — was first launched years ago, but the Biden administration shut it down “for...

rillary Clinton' strikes again: Ian Sams, the former "Grillary Clinton" apron model widely understood to be one of the worst political operatives of the 21st century, served as a top spokesman for Joe Biden for two years. He repeatedly touted his boss's mental fitness, including after Biden's disastrous CNN debate. "No, I've gotta say that doesn't look anything like the president that I know," Sams told MSNBC in July 2024. "When I deal with him, he's sharp! He's asking tough questions!" Sams, it turns out, didn't deal with Biden very often. He "had just two interactions with the addled octogenarian...

I am generally bullish about Democrats’ chances of retaking the House majority in 2026. That’s because the history of midterm elections is pretty overwhelming when it comes to seat losses for the president’s party. When a president is unpopular in polls—as Donald Trump is today—those losses are even steeper. And yet, I don’t think a Democratic-controlled House is in the bag just yet. Why? Well, for much of the past year, I have been hearing from smart Democratic strategists who insist that their party has fallen badly behind Republicans in one of the critical nuts and bolts needed for winning...

“Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did His disciples” (Matthew 9:19). Jesus was always willing to go out of His way to serve others in the Father’s name. This trait was certainly evident as Christ reached out to Jairus with accessibility and availability. There were certainly many other needy people in the region near Jairus, but the urgency of the synagogue leader’s circumstances demanded that Jesus go to Jairus’s home. From a distance the Lord could have sent the power to raise the man’s daughter from the dead. He chose, however, to manifest selfless love and...
