Justice Neil Gorsuch called out lower courts on Thursday for a pattern of defying Supreme Court rulings.
Allowing the Trump administration to move forward with cutting millions in National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants marked the “third time in a matter of weeks” the Supreme Court had to reverse a lower court on an issue it had already addressed, Gorsuch wrote.
“Lower court judges may sometimes disagree with this Court’s decisions, but they are never free to defy them,” Gorsuch wrote in an opinion joined by Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

A sternly worded email?
Only took 9 years before a GOP appointee actually spoke about this in public.
It is by their protocol standard
Just openly scolding them is a STATEMENT
trust me
It’s like the actor Hoffman in 70s tv show Paper Chase chastising an unprepared law stufent in a big class when they are called upon to opine on previous evening reading list
Appeals are to correct errors. Intentional misconduct is not an error. It must have a consequence, lest it fester and violate the fundamental right to justice from courts without sale, denial or delay guaranteed by the Magna Carta which is the basis for the Fifth Amendment right to Due Process of Law.
Total bull chit. “Well what are you going to do about it whitey?”
A very slow ‘boil’ is underway in the SCOTUS.
Most have not yet noticed.
Gird your loins!
” Now start doling out consequences.”
Enlighten us - what consequences can the SCOTUS dole out?
And Chief Justice Roberts remains silent on the subject, thus abrogating his position on the Court.

Roberts will go down in history as one of the worst chief justices in history.
You bring up a good point. A friend of mine said basically the same thing.
“Lower court judges may sometimes disagree with this Court’s decisions, but they are never free to defy them,”
Apparently they are since you gutless dipshits don’t do a damned thing about it.

You’d think Roberts would make a statement...
Nah, nah... has to wait to scold Trump again...
I remember many yearsc watching Joe Biden interrogating then Judge Clarence Thomas before Thomas got on the SC.
Biden was disgustingly demeaning, and I wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d said, “Now listen here, boy.”
Biden showed his ass then, and hasn’t stopped since!
And good luck in getting invitations to the elite yacht trips and catered parties in the Hamptons for those judges. Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer, George Clooney, AOC. But not them. So there.
Decades ago, in pre-communist California, eventually SCOTUS decided enough was enough. This was 1992.
District judges interfered several times in a single night with the execution of Robert Alton Harris, who in 1979 kidnapped and murdered 2 San Diego teens.
The execution, as usual, was scheduled for one minute after midnight. Just before 6 a.m. SCOTUS told the California federal courts to go to their rooms for a time out
*****
The Harris execution was scheduled for 12:01 a.m. on the morning of April 21, but a series of four stays issued by individual federal judges delayed the execution until just after 6 a.m.
In its order vacating the fourth stay of execution, the U.S. Supreme Court stated,
“No further stays of Robert Alton Harris’ execution shall be entered by the federal courts except upon order of this court.”
*******
My recollection is that had the matter been delayed much beyond 6 a.m., the county trial judge would have been obliged to sign a new death warrant, and the appeals process would have resumed.
At some point SCOTUS has to step up and make it clear that the nation’s inferior courts are precisely that. Inferior.

John Houseman?
A judge is just a lawyer with too much power.
