Jesus’ Availability to Jairus - Evangelical Caucus/Devotional

“Jesus got up and began to follow him, and so did His disciples” (Matthew 9:19).

Jesus was always willing to go out of His way to serve others in the Father’s name. This trait was certainly evident as Christ reached out to Jairus with accessibility and availability. There were certainly many other needy people in the region near Jairus, but the urgency of the synagogue leader’s circumstances demanded that Jesus go to Jairus’s home. From a distance the Lord could have sent the power to raise the man’s daughter from the dead. He chose, however, to manifest selfless love and compassion by following the grieving Jairus to his home.

God is sensitive not only to the needs of the many but to the cry of individuals in need. The Holy Spirit’s work through Philip in Acts 8 illustrates this principle. In the midst of a highly profitable ministry in Samaria, an angel dispatched the evangelist to Gaza (v. 26). Right away Philip met the Ethiopian eunuch, the royal official who served the queen of Ethiopia. When the Holy Spirit prompted Philip to approach the man, the evangelist found an eager seeker about the things of God and was able to lead him to saving faith in Christ (vv. 35–37).

God sometimes leads us, as He often led His own Son and the early disciples, to temporarily set aside a larger ministry to focus on the need of one person—and He wants us to be available. After all, Jesus did promise that every single individual who genuinely “comes to Me I will certainly not cast out” (John 6:37).

Ask Yourself

Who comes to mind when you think of someone God has called you to influence at this point in time?

Avoid the temptation to withhold yourself from others, not wanting to get involved in the messiness of their needs and problems, when Jesus has called you to compassion.

The re-enactment of the healing at the house of Jairus from “The Chosen” was spot-on. It was like you were there.

Where I live there are many homeless and addicts. There are times the Holy Spirit calls for us to go out of our way for them. Many don’t repent on the spot due to a lifetime of dysfunction and bondage of addiction. They may not be ready in the moment but the seeds are planted.
..................................

Prayer For Those Addicted To Drugs

Loving Lord Jesus, we lift up all those who are suffering today from some form of addiction to drugs, whether they are prescribed medicines from a doctor, or unlicensed drugs that have been gained illicitly – all addiction is detrimental to health and wholeness and Lord, we want to lift up all who are addicted in one way or another.

Lord, we believe that You were sent to heal those that are broken and damaged, crushed and hurting, in bondage to drugs or addicted to some form of medication, and we plead Your grace and mercy over such people and pray that You would meet each man or woman at their particular point of need, and deliver each one.

Raise up those that would stand in the gap in prayer, and bring friends and relatives who will be supportive to those that need to be liberated from their drug dependence or addiction. Into Your hands we commit each one, and thank and praise You for all that You are going to do in these lives. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Go3s along with the following verse about those who trust in Jesus.

Jeremiah 17:7
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

Gill commentary follows

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord,.... In the Word of the Lord, as the Targum, in Christ the essential Word of God; see Psalm 2:12

who have a spiritual knowledge of him, and so trust in him, Psalm 9:10

who have seen the vanity and emptiness of all other objects of trust, there being no salvation in them, only in him; who betake themselves to him as their only refuge; lay hold, rest, and rely upon him, as their Saviour; commit their all unto him; trust him with all their concerns, respecting life and salvation, and with their immortal souls; and expect all from him, grace here, and glory hereafter: who trust in his person for their acceptance with God; in his righteousness for their justification; in his blood for the pardon of their sins; in his fulness for the supply of their wants; in his power for protection and preservation; and in all for eternal life and happiness: and such are blessed persons; for they are in the utmost safety; they are as Mount Zion, which can never be removed; they shall want no good thing, temporal or spiritual, proper for them; they enjoy great peace now, and in the world to come everlasting glory:

When he stuck closely to Scripture, The Chosen has been great. There’s so much more material from Scripture he could have used, too, which it would have made the series so much better.

His own side story lines, not so much.

It really brings some things to life. How they lived, how they observed the Sabbath, the closeness of family and relationship.

They were rich in so many things we are missing today.

It also goes to show how exceptional what Jesus did was out of the ordinary. They were living their lives waiting for the Messiah, and He crashes into their world on a ordinary day in their lives and changes their lives forever, often to, but not always because of healing.

I long to see that kind of manifestation of Jesus in this world today. And not for show. But to really change hearts and lives.
