A glamorous city known for sprawling mansions, boutique shops and glamor is at risk of becoming 'the next Detroit,' according to experts. Los Angeles is being rocked by an exodus of big budget TV and film production companies — long considered the backbone of the local economy. Detroit was once the center of America's auto production, but fell into decline when factories began to shut, triggering a major housing crisis. Now, some fear LA faces a similar threat. FilmLA reports that on-location production in the city fell by 22.4 percent in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same...

WASHINGTON — House Republicans have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to charge former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for making “criminally false statements” to Congress, citing “overwhelming evidence” that an audit he presided over had low-balled nursing home deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic. The House Oversight Committee re-upped the criminal referral after then-Attorney General Merrick Garland declined last year to prosecute Cuomo for allegedly triggering, helping to draft and reviewing a July 6, 2020, report that undercounted the total number of deaths in senior care facilities by 46%. “Andrew Cuomo is a man with a history of corruption and deceit,...

What a big surprise that a few leakers get fired and suddenly a bunch of hit pieces come out! They take anonymous sources from disgruntled former employees, and then they try to slash and burn people and ruin their reputations. NOT going to work with me, because we're changing the Defense Department, putting the Pentagon back in the hands of war fighters and anonymous smears from disgruntled former employees on old news doesn't matter.

Metformin, a widely used diabetes drug, could prevent a form of acute myeloid leukemia in people at high risk of the disease, a study in mice has suggested. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive form of blood cancer that is very difficult to treat. Thanks to recent advances, individuals at high risk of AML can be identified years in advance using blood tests and blood DNA analysis, but there's no suitable treatment that can prevent them from developing the disease. In this study, Professor George Vassiliou investigated how to prevent abnormal blood stem cells with genetic changes from progressing...

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) says it will continue to ignore a federal directive barring the participation of biological male athletes in high school girls’ sports. Previously, the State of Maine announced it would not comply with the directive, issued as an Executive Order by President Donald J. Trump in February, and now faces a federal lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). ISHA’s president, Dan Tully, claims that state law preempts the federal restriction and requires Illinois high schools to accommodate so-called transgender athletes, who are biological males, by allowing their participation in girls’ sporting events....

A new report from GlobalData, a data and analytics group, projects global nuclear power capacity will hit 494 GW by 2035. The group’s “Nuclear Power Market, Update 2025–Market Size, Segmentation, Major Trends, and Key Country Analysis to 2035” said capacity gains will be tied to advancements in deployments of small modular reactors (SMRs), along with the continuing worldwide shift to cleaner forms of energy. The report released April 21 said recent gains in nuclear power have been driven by moves toward more low-carbon baseload power. Measures promoting energy security, in addition to interest in decarbonization of industrial sectors, also is...

Yuppies of the world, unite! New York Times columnist David Brooks, calling for a “mass civic uprising” against Donald Trump: "We live in a country with catastrophically low levels of institutional trust. University presidents, big law firms, media organizations and corporate executives face a wall of skepticism and cynicism. If they are going to participate in a mass civic uprising against Trump, they have to show the rest of the country that they understand the establishment sins that gave rise to Trump in the first place… [that] this is not just defending the establishment; it’s moving somewhere new." You don’t...

April 21 (UPI) -- A brewery in Belgium swapped painted eggs for frothy brews when it celebrated Easter with the "World's Biggest Beer Hunt." The fifth annual Easter event at the Aywiers Gardens in Lasne, Belgium, saw over 1,000 registered hunters searching the grounds for 12,000 hidden bottles of Lutgarde beer. Hidden among the beers was a special golden bottle, which earned its finder a prize of his weight in beer. The event began Sunday with a chocolate egg hunt for children at noon, and the beer hunt then commenced at 12:30 p.m. A barbecue at 1:30 p.m. allowed the...

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has decided not to file criminal charges against a 33-year-old man accused of inflicting $21,000 in damage to six Teslas in Minneapolis over a few-day span. Instead, the office will file for Dylan Bryan Adams, of Minneapolis, to be entered into an adult diversion program meant for first-time, low level offenders. “Our main priorities are to secure restitution for the victims and hold Mr. Adams accountable,” said Hennepin County Attorney’s Office spokesman Daniel Borgertpoepping, in a statement. “As a result, we will file for pre-charge diversion to best facilitate both of those goals. This is...

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) suggested Monday that the US government may have played a role in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks during an interview with MAGA influencer Benny Johnson on The Benny Show. The senator, who sits on the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, questioned the official explanation for the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 and echoed claims frequently raised by conspiracy theorists on the fringes of the internet. “Within these agencies, a lot of them are going to cover their tracks and cover things up and destroy a lot of evidence,” the senator said. “It’s gonna...

KAIST researchers have developed a groundbreaking drug that restores vision by inducing retinal nerve regeneration, marking the first long-term neural regeneration in mammalian retinas. This treatment works by blocking the PROX1 protein, a key inhibitor of retinal regeneration, and has shown lasting effects in mouse models of retinal disease. ************************************************************ Blocking the PROX1 protein allowed KAIST researchers to regenerate damaged retinas and restore vision in mice. Vision is one of the most important human senses, yet more than 300 million people around the world are at risk of losing it due to various retinal diseases. Although recent treatments have helped...

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will attend the funeral of Pope Francis, which will likely take place in Rome this month. “Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome,” the president shared in a Truth Social post on Monday afternoon. “We look forward to being there!” It’s not immediately clear when the funeral will be: a pope is typically mourned for nine days while the College of Cardinals comes together to pray. After the pope’s funeral takes place, the conclave of cardinals will elect a new pope. His announcement...

SALEM, N.J. (AP) — The family of NHL hockey player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew listened in pain Tuesday as lawyers debated whether the men's own drinking contributed to their deaths when they were hit by an allegedly drunken and enraged driver as they cycled at night. After nearly two hours of argument, a judge agreed the issue was moot under New Jersey criminal law — upholding all of the charges against the driver, including manslaughter and vehicular homicide. “There’s no credence in the argument there was contributory negligence on the part of the cyclists,” said Superior Court Judge...
