[Catholic Caucus] Irony Alert: Postconciliar Iconoclasts Arrive at the Feast of St John Damascene and Smash ItSo much to observe about today's confluence in the Roman Rite, on this Thursday of the third week of Lent, with a commemoration of St. John Damascene.First, the ancient Roman liturgy keeps a station today at a church in honor of the physician brothers and martyrs Cosmas and Damian. Obviously the Gospel about the healing of Peter's mother-in-law fits right in; the propers also mention "salus," whose basic meaning is "health" although it takes on the supernatural meaning of "salvation."The TLM, by remembering Cosmas...

“Randomly chosen.” The left is so brazen and emboldened, spit in our faces and tell us it’s raining or set fire to the country and tell us it’s global warming. President Trump calls for an “IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION” as activist Judge Boasberg gets a FOURTH Trump case ... Trump points out how corrupt DC’s courts are, and that it’s “statistically impossible” for Boasberg to be chosen “at random” over and over again. “He seems to be grabbing the Trump cases all to himself, even though it’s not supposed to happen that way.”

Institutions like the military and colleges are sometimes said to mirror society. One can only wonder where we are headed as a Country, but more importantly we must ask if individual schools are trend setters. Take the Ivy Leauge schools and their affinity for foreign students who hate America, or how they pushed degrees without merit until DEI created a need for the degrees. In sports cheating is usually limited to gaining an edge on the field... sometimes fame, power or money are additional motivators. Take Michigan University and the Athletic Program as a whole. Multiple team sports were cheating...

Hopefully, someone out there in FR Land can help me with a UPS Worldship problem. Last weekend the Shipping computer at one of my IT client's just up and died. I wasn't really worried since I do a daily iDrive backup every evening. So I purchased a new computer, got it set up, and after jumping through the usual hoops with UPS, I got Worldship installed. Next up, was to install the UPS database (address, past invoices, etc.) from my iDrive backup file. I've done this before when I was upgrading machines where you just use the Worldship program to...

The bad news: The bill is coming due. During the campaign, whispers of Sleepy Joe’s Harris-related spending spree leaked out of the Trump campaign from time to...

Twenty years ago today, Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube was withdrawn with court approval, commencing a cruel deprivation of sustenance that resulted in her death by dehydration 13 days later. For those who may not remember, the case became the most hotly contested bioethics issue since Roe v. Wade as Terri’s husband Michael fought in courts and in the media with her parents and siblings over his desire to remove all Terri’s food and fluids. In the end, he won — and Terri died. Now, two bioethicists on the influential Hastings Center blog decry the case as wrongly brought. They get...

Dua Lipa scored a legal victory in a copyright lawsuit over her 2020 smash “Levitating” after a judge dismissed the case. Lipa was initially hit with a pair of “Levitating” copyright lawsuits in March 2022, one from Florida reggae group named Artikal Sound System that was dismissed in June 2023, and another from L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer. Judge Katherine Polk Failla dismissed the latter earlier today in New York court, explaining that the commonalities between songs were not protectable under copyright law. In their initial suit, Brown and Linzer accused Lipa of copying both their 1979 song “Wiggle...

All four of the sun’s giant planets emit more energy than they receive from the sun. Like the sun’s other giant worlds, Uranus (seen in this 1986 photo from the Voyager 2 spacecraft) radiates more energy than the sun gives it, though not nearly as strongly as its massive peers do. JPL/NASA ===================================================================== Uranus emits more energy than it gets from the sun, two new studies report — a discovery that contradicts findings from the venerable Voyager spacecraft. When Voyager 2 sped past Uranus on January 24, 1986, the spacecraft detected no significant excess heat from the planet, making it...

[Catholic Caucus] The Rule of Law and the Francis Pontificate>h2>The problem for the Church’s life, and for the application of justice, comes when the Pope appears to convey disregard or indifference for the uniform application of the law—even laws he has written—choosing to ignore them or apply them to some while reserving different treatment for others. "One way to stop the spread of diseases transmitted by insects is to make the blood of animals and humans toxic," according to researchers. Researchers have discovered that a medication typically prescribed for rare diseases could make human blood deadly for mosquitoes, offering a potential lead to curb diseases such as malaria. They experimented with a drug called nitisinone, which is usually prescribed to individuals with rare inherited diseases that typically prevent them from being able to fully break down certain amino acids. The medication works by blocking an enzyme to prevent the build-up of harmful disease byproducts in the...
