US President-elect Donald Trump said he would like to hold talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and that could happen within six months from his return to the White House, APA reports citing TASS. Asked at a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago mansion whether the talks could happen within three or six months after he takes office, Trump replied, "I hope long before six months." Ukraine would be one of the subjects for the talks, he said. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov on January 5 denied reports that Putin's meetings with Trump and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz were in the works.

Syria’s former media chief and top aide to Bashar al-Assad said that Russian President Vladimir Putin may have “tricked” the ousted Syrian president in his final days as leader. Speaking to Mazeej Studios, a podcast produced by Saudi channel Al Arabiya, Kamel Saqr said that Assad was in Moscow in late November, just over a week before Syrian rebels captured Damascus. According to him, the rebels had already captured much of Aleppo by the time Assad met Putin on Friday 29 November. Donald Trump, Jr., son of President-elect Donald Trump, arrived in Greenland on Tuesday after emphasizing that the trip is just a personal one, indicating he is not meeting with government officials. His trip comes as his father continues to float the possibility of the U.S. purchasing and taking over Greenland, an autonomous territory administered by Denmark. Trump had also suggested the possibility during his first administration. About the same time as his eldest son landed, the president-elect, celebrating his son and his advisers' trip to Greenland, floated a "deal" that he claims "must happen," while not elaborating on what deal...

Authorities have not released his name, sparking criticism over transparency in such cases. (NEXSTAR) — While the national housing supply recently reached a four-year high, buying a home in some U.S. cities may be especially difficult in 2025, a new Zillow report suggests. To make its predictions, Zillow reviewed multiple factors — including how quickly homes have been selling, and its own forecast for home value growth — in the 50 most populated cities nationwide. Overall, Zillow’s analysis determined cities primarily on the East Coast could have the hottest housing markets of 2025. For the second year in a row, Buffalo, New York, held the top spot on Zillow’s list. The company pointed...

Explanation: It was a new year, and the sky was doubly red. The new year meant that the Earth had returned to its usual place in its orbit on January 1, a place a few days before its closest approach to the Sun. The first of the two red skyglows, on the left, was a red aurora, complete with vertical rays, caused by a blast from the Sun pushing charged particles into Earth's atmosphere. The second red glow, most prominent on the far right, was possibly a SAR arc caused by a river of charged particles flowing across Earth's atmosphere....

Canadians woke up Tuesday to an uncertain future, after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he would resign and bring his near-decade in power to an end. Trudeau's announcement came just days into an election year and followed weeks of mounting pressure from within his own party to step down as he battled dire poll ratings partly driven by soaring inflation, rising immigration and his handling of President-elect Donald Trump. "If I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option” in Canada's next election, Trudeau, 53, told reporters in Ottawa. His decision has triggered an urgent search within...

A new theory, that explains how light and matter interact at the quantum level has enabled researchers to define the precise shape of a single photon. Research at the University of Birmingham, published in Physical Review Letters, explores the nature of photons (individual particles of light) in unprecedented detail to show how they are emitted by atoms or molecules and shaped by their environment. The nature of this interaction leads to infinite possibilities for light to exist and propagate, or travel, through its surrounding environment. This limitless possibility, however, makes the interactions exceptionally hard to model, and is a challenge...

Vladimir Putin has today been seen with red eyes and a mystery bruise on his hand, fuelling further speculation of his deteriorating health. The Russian despot, today seen calling a 15-year-old girl from Ukraine's Donetsk region called Arina Porkhal as part of the New Year Tree of Wishes nationwide charity campaign, was seen with weary eyes and bruise on his hand. Canada’s Green Party leader, Elizabeth May, took aim at President-elect Donald Trump, offering a wild “proposal” to annex California, Oregon, and Washington into Canada. Her comments, dripping with arrogance, reveal an out-of-touch politician grasping for relevance while ignoring the stark realities of her own country’s struggles. Trump posted on Truth Social last month expressing frustration with the United States “subsidizing Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year,” while pointing out that many Canadians might actually welcome the idea of statehood. He argued it would save Canadians money on taxes and military expenses, framing the prospect as beneficial for...
