What do the polls of elections past tell us about the current presidential race? Borrowing from Charles Dickens’s classic “A Christmas Carol,” miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by ghosts from Christmas past, present, and future, converting him into a kinder and gentler soul. Political polling also creates scrooges, especially when we see our preferred candidate losing in the polls, or our disliked candidate given a false boost due to the polling sample composition and spin. The ghost of election present is today, the first week or two of October, less than a month until election day. The Real Clear Politics...

Cut the Truth Out of Our HeadsThe censors are losing patience. They have gone from regretting the existence of free speech and gaming the system as best they can to fantasizing about ending it through criminal penalties. You can observe this change in temperament – from frustration to fury to calling for violent solutions – over the last several weeks. And it serves as a reminder: censorship was never the end point. It was always about controlling society’s “cognitive infrastructure,” which is how we think. And to what end? A secure monopoly on political power. This week, Fox reporter Peter...

This hot, new style is literally blowing up. Air-conditioned clothing could be the coolest trend to hit the market and offer relief in sweltering temperatures. Japan-based Anrealage, spearheaded by designer Kunihiko Morinaga, breathed new life into nylon apparel for its spring/summer 2025 collection at Paris Fashion Week. The brand introduced a line of inflatable garb that ballooned as models walked down the runway, each piece powered by fan technology from Kuchofuku, a company that makes chill-down garments. “By showing air-conditioned clothes in Paris, we hope to be able to suggest new physical forms, but also a sustainable solution to hot...

Day #33 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I've been posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the course of several months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so this will probably be done in early November. I've picked up the pace a bit over the last week. And to show my gratitude to the...

A. Overview of Pseudo-Ephraem:1. Here is the full text of both the Latin and Syraic versions of Pseudo-Ephraem.2. As you will see, Pseudo-Ephraem teaches that Christians escape tribulation by death not rapture!3. Rapture advocates use "Pseudo-Ephraem" as an example of rapture doctrine that was believed and taught in 375 AD. Such a use of Pseudo-Ephraem is wrong, unscholarly and desperate. But this desperation is because Pseudo-Ephraem is the only example they can find before 1830 of Rapture doctrine. Of course, Pseudo-Ephraem DOES NOT teach rapture or anything even close to it.4. The purpose of this section of the outline is...

Vice President Kamala Harris sat down for another “hard-hitting” interview this week and it didn’t take long for things to get weird. During an interview on “The Shade Room,” host Justin Carter began the interview by telling Harris that she “smelled good” before giving her the floor to talk about her “Opportunity Agenda For Black Men.” “How did we get here? You smell good, you look good,” Cater said. Kamala responded, “That’s better than smelling bad.” “There’s 23 days left until the election and I am in these streets,” Harris told Carter. Harris also had another awkward moment when she...

Newly promoted White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who also now serves as a senior adviser to President Joe Biden, prevents national security spokesperson John Kirby from joining her at the podium at White House press briefings, people familiar with the matter told Axios. Infighting and “tension” reportedly exist between Jean-Pierre and Kirby about how much time each is allotted to provide the establishment media with canned public relations remarks during press briefings, Axios previously reported. Kirby is reportedly a “Biden favorite” with experience in foreign policy. Axios reported Monday on Jean-Pierre’s attempt to prevent Kirby from speaking to the...

New numbers for the Anglican Church of Canada (ACoC) are out, and they show that Canada is the first major province of the Anglican Communion to have collapsed. https://livingchurch.org/covenant/the-collapse-of-the-anglican-church-of-canada/#_ftn1 Here are the data for average Sunday attendance: 2001 162,000 2019 87,000 2022 65,000 These are truly remarkable numbers. A church already in steep decline saw that decline speed up during COVID. Attendance in 2022 was 40 percent of attendance in 2001. And between 2019 and 2022, the ACoC lost a quarter of its Sunday attendance. The church is not only smaller, but is also much, much older. Here is the...

(DCNF)—CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten expressed surprise Monday at the degree to which “young black men” are abandoning the Democratic Party Former President Barack Obama on Thursday urged black men to support Vice President Kamala Harris while speaking at a Pittsburgh-area campaign office, asserting he believes a reason for their reluctance to back her is that they “aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president.” Enten, on “CNN News Central,” said Obama was likely mistaken in his criticism as “young black men” have increasingly been leaving the Democratic Party over multiple elections against former President Donald Trump....

Daily Readings from the USCCB“This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.” Luke 11:29–30Do you ever find yourself looking for signs from God? Often when we go through life, navigating through the ups and downs we all experience, we can easily find ourselves looking for signs from God about what we should do about this or that. And though God certainly communicates to us at times through...

Here are my thoughts: I agree in principle that an anti-war movie is incongruous with promoting the idea of a tough non-woke US military and thus war itself - however - these are very dangerous and strange times and thus using this footage is doubtless pure expedience. Because I’m sure the irony of using FMJ footage is not lost on Trump or his team - Trump is always seeking to end wars and use peaceful methods. However, that’s primarily what FMJ is about, the shocking and complicated paradoxes of human nature.

Last week, the phrase “Democrats panic” surged into corporate media headlines, despite the polling showing Harris up a couple points at that time. But yesterday, Democrat panic reached even higher levels of awkwardness when the New York Times published liberal stalwart Ezra Klein’s latest op-ed with this astonishing title: Ignore the polls? One detects a marked lack of confidence on the Democrat side. But why? What’s really going on? The answer might be found in less partisan foreign headlines, like yesterday’s from Al Jazeera: If the polls show your candidate losing, then the polls don’t mean anything. Democrats’ current problem...
