President Donald Trump on Saturday abruptly canceled a planned trip by special envoy Steve Witkoff and the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner to Pakistan, pulling back from what had been billed just a day earlier as a potential jump-start to fragile Iran talks.
“I just cancelled the trip of my representatives going is [to] Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
“Too much time wasted on traveling, too much work! Besides which, there is tremendous infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership.’ Nobody knows who on earth is in charge, including them. Also, we have all the cards, they have none! If they want to talk, all they have to do is call!!!”
The sudden reversal underscores the whiplash surrounding the administration’s diplomatic push in recent days — and Trump’s impatience with negotiations that aren’t quickly yielding results. In a separate statement provided by the White House, Trump said the U.S. has “all the cards.”
“I’ve told my people a little while ago they were getting ready to leave, and I said, ‘Nope, you’re not making an 18 hour flight to go there,’” the president said. “We have all the cards. They can call us anytime they want, but you’re not going to be making any more 18 hour flights to sit around talking about nothing.”
It comes after Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, and his delegation left Islamabad after arriving Friday for talks with Pakistani leaders.

Negotiating with jihadi loons is a massive waste of time, whether in person, on the phone, or via Zoom.
They're probably thinking the same thing about us.
Abruptly?
RE: They’re probably thinking the same thing about us.
Why? There’s only one ultimate decision maker in the USA, who’s the equivalent in Iran?
What the hell took him so long? Even if an agreement were to be made with Iran, in that religion it’s their DUTY (taqiyya) to lie if it furthers Islam.
Trump equates Muslim negotiations to making deals with the unions, NY Mafia, and Democrats. They aren’t actual people.
What a hoot!
RE: Abruptly?
Would you prefer the word “sudden”? It’s also used in the article.
Tee up the next round of kinetic shaping operations.
Still some weeding left to be done.
Wouldn’t surprise me if it was some caper a terror group was about to pull.
next week?…..
next month?….
next year?
I really hate ceasefires and peace negotiations.
Thank goodness WWII didn’t end with a compromise ceasefire like Korea.
Nor did the US first Civil War.
This is not unlike the situation we face with Japan in 1945, there were many factions, who frequently quarreled with each other.
We were very fortunate that Hirohito was wise enough, and that he wasn’t bumped off, before he was able to make his broadcast.
And MacArthur was wise to keep him on the Chrysanthemum Throne.
Go back to blue sky with the rest of the a-holes.
That will be a problem for the Dem House and Senate rulers to decide upon and try to solve. Probably with capitulation.
GOP will not be in charge in January. Tragically.
Abruptly IS CORRECT. Witkoff & Kushner were about to embark on the 18 hour long flight (I have done those long flights several times and they are very hard on body with jet lag).
Meeting will be back on, what, Tuesday . . . Thursday at the latest? Accompanied by a “they are begging to make a deal,” and a “they better make a deal or we will hit them harder the anybody’s ever heard of before.”
The GOP is just getting in the way. At least the situation will be clarified, and Trump seems to thrive when it’s just him vs Democrats, without the useless Republicans muddying the waters.
Are you a troll or just dumb? We have a very active and in charge COMMANDER IN CHIEF. Who does Iran have?
Well, yeah, because the Iranian negotiators are not the ones calling the shots.
