Wind and solar energy generated more electricity than coal in the USA during the first seven months of the year. In the USA, almost twice as much solar energy will be added compared to last year.

Wind and solar energy generated more electricity than coal in the USA during the first seven months of the year.

In the USA, 36.4 gigawatts of solar energy capacity will be added in 2024, almost double the previous year.

Renewable energy has helped stabilize the power grid during extreme weather conditions.

Wind energy has shown remarkable growth and surpassed coal power in electricity production for two consecutive months this year. In March, wind power plants generated 45.9 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity, compared to coal's 38.4 GWh. In April, wind energy reached a record level of 47.7 GWh, while coal produced 37.2 GWh.

Over the past 25 years, wind power capacity in the USA has increased from 2.4 gigawatts in 2000 to over 150 gigawatts in spring 2024. Solar energy capacity has increased by more than 99 gigawatts during the same period. Meanwhile, coal power capacity has steadily decreased and reached 177.1 gigawatts in April 2024, down from 315.1 gigawatts in 2000.

Only achieved by massive government subsidies and mandates.

me too. there’s a propaganda campaign on. a seemingly intelligent DOD contractor I know has asserted that each windmill off the coast of Europe can power 250,000 homes. I just figure it’s part of his DOD required training to be taught crap like that.

Maybe after you force all of the coal plants to shut down.
Now compare solar to coal power from 20 years ago.

a very good point. at what cost? every dollar is had at the expense of a slice of someone’s productive life. you can probably make a pile of rocks generate electricity if you throw enough money at it.

Shutting down coal fired power plants in the USA and shipping the coal to China has really paid off!

Stabilized the power grid? Wind and solar are the very definition of unstable and need coal or gas or nuclear backups for stability.

Hard to believe any other claims in the article after that whopper.

Of course, coal is being "regulated" out of production.

What is U.S. electricity generation by energy source?

My neighbor Johnny who is a roofing and solar contractor used a generator after Milton.

My neighbor Brent has solar too, but he didn’t run a generator. Brent is fond of expensive equipment and owns a small dump truck and small Bobcat.

Meanwhile, Deep State is exporting record amounts of US coal...

Hoist the BS flag real high. The only reason wind is beating coal is the EPA shuttering coal fired plants out of the feel good greenies.

Florida Power & Light is installing solar farms in a massive way.

It might be able to get by in the future with just solar and nuclear.

I was helping my son move from Las Vegas to Tennessee this past summer. I was amazed at the incredible numbers of wind turbines as we traveled through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. They seemed to never end. There were also a lot of trucks carrying turbine blades. Those things are big.

It's a good thing the web page linked in the OP has a really big pix on it. Impressive. And takes the focus from the fact that US electrical generation by not only coal but also natural gas -- both hydrocarbons -- far outproduce the "green," Rather like Europe's issues too. "Green" is about narratives to generate some sort of "heat" which does not warm a cold winter's night.

Its 100% due to government effectively banning coal, and massive $$ subsidies thrown at “renewables.”

What’s really grown is natural gas - its very cheap, its abundant in the USA, the US leads in turbine technology for NG electricity generation and NG-generation plants are easy to build.

Regardless, DC marxists are still working hard to destroy these natural advantages
