Dystopia lies ahead. Imagine life in the near future. A man resides alone in a tiny apartment. He would prefer to be married, but the State considers that antiquated institution “patriarchal” and “white supremacist.” He would prefer to have children, but he can’t afford them. Besides, his yearly carbon allowance is insufficient to cover another resource-wasting human being. He has never owned anything. He rents his bedroom, his furnishings, and his meager entertainments. Each month, a digital account associated with his digital ID receives a number of central bank digital currency units. How much he receives depends upon the number...

Months after the federal district court expressed concern about the government conduct during its investigation in Steve Bannon’s contempt of Congress case, the court has yet to hold a hearing on the claims that the prosecuting attorneys invaded the privacy of Bannon’s lawyer by subpoenaing his phone records and emails and potentially damaging the attorney-client relationship. The accusations against the prosecutors were detailed in several court filings over a year ago and Bannon had previously invoked them in a failed attempt to have the charges against him dismissed.

For several months, some conservative commentators had pointed to Bill Maher suddenly seeing the light and expressing common sense criticisms of the Democrats as being the greatest conversion since St. Paul rode to Damascus. If you accepted this act as being truthful, forget it. Maher's disenchantment with the Democrats was short lived. It had everything to do with Biden being a certain loser in the November 5th election. Now that Harris has usurped the nomination, Maher is back on the Democratic Party reservation. In the latest episode of "Real Time," Maher lauded Nancy Pelosi and permitted her to lie shamelessly...

“I feel myself unequal to this business” confessed John Adams, of the “grand scene open before me—a Congress.” In the fall of 1774, Adams and 55 other delegates journeyed all manner of distances by foot, horseback and carriage to Philadelphia for the First Continental Congress. Before now, few of “the wisest men upon the continent,” as Adams described the delegates in his diary, had ever left their colonies or collaborated with one another, but there was power in numbers—or, at least, they had seen there was weakness without them. In March 1774, British Parliament punished the Massachusetts colony for the...

“Once they give the Pakis passports and badges, it’s all over for the Old Country, boy-o” my Irish-Catholic Midwestern grandmammy once lamented to me over her morning ritual prune juice-Jameson cocktail. It kept her regular. This turned out to be another of her Nostradamus moments, as the diversity fire raging in Ireland is not likely to be quenched by hordes of new deputized “migrants” that the government is for some recruiting directly from places like Pakistan. This story is absolutely insane, such that initially I could not believe it was true. Alas, it is. Not only does Ireland recruit police...

@BrendanCarrFCC On Brazilian Justice de Moreas's order shutting down X: The text of his 51-page decision is far more concerning and sweeping than the headlines suggest. de Moreas’s own words make clear that he is attempting to strike a broader blow against free speech and in favor of authoritarian controls. His opinion does not even try to hide it. He comes right out and points to Brexit and the 2016 election of President Trump as examples, in his telling, of the types of extreme “populist” outcomes that he is attempting to avoid by imposing a new censorship regime in Brazil...

Former President Donald Trump on Friday said he will vote no on a Florida ballot measure that would repeal the state’s six-week abortion ban, a day after he seemed to indicate he would vote in favor of the measure. Trump has said he thinks Florida’s ban is a mistake and said in an interview with Fox News Channel on Friday, “I think six weeks, you need more time.” But then he said, “at the same time, the Democrats are radical,” and he repeated false claims he has frequently made about late-term abortions and said that he opposed allowing abortions up...

The United Nations Security Council today unanimously adopted resolution 2749 (2024), extending the mission’s mandate until 31 August 2025.As daily exchanges of fire are having devastating effects on civilians on both sides of the Blue Line, the Security Council strongly urged all relevant actors to implement immediate measures towards de-escalation. It further demanded the parties recommit to the full implementation of all provisions of resolution 1701 and reiterated its strong support for full respect for the Blue Line and full cessation of hostilities. The new resolution condemned incidents affecting UNIFIL premises and forces, including the wounding of several peacekeepers. All parties...

A drop in the share of Black first-year students at two elite colleges this school year has provided an early sign that the Supreme Court’s decision to end affirmative action could have an impact on racial diversity, at least at some of the nation’s more selective schools. At Amherst College the share of Black students decreased sharply — by 8% — for this year’s entering class. It decreased more moderately at Tufts University. At the University of Virginia the percentage of Black students also dipped, but only slightly. Amherst’s data showed that the percentage of white students enrolling rose sharply,...

The Forward Party’s Christine Todd Whitman and former Libertarian Party vice presidential nominee William Weld are among a list of Republicans openly supporting Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris later this year. Earlier this month, the Harris campaign announced “Republicans for Harris,” a list of over two dozen Republican Party officials helping with outreach efforts to GOP voters who remain critical of Republican nominee Donald Trump. Included on that list were Christine Todd Whitman, a former New Jersey governor who later helped create the Forward Party, and William Weld, a former Massachusetts governor who ran as Gary Johnson’s vice presidential nominee...

Researchers have discovered a "spatial grammar" in DNA that redefines the role of transcription factors in gene regulation, influencing our understanding of genetic variations and disease.A recently uncovered code within DNA, referred to as "spatial grammar," may unlock the secret to how gene activity is encoded in the human genome. This breakthrough finding, identified by researchers at Washington State University and the University of California, San Diego and published in Nature, revealed a long-postulated hidden spatial grammar embedded in DNA. The research could reshape scientists' understanding of gene regulation and how genetic variations may influence gene expression in development or disease...Transcription...

Scientists have revealed that graphite in the ancient Saglek-Hebron iron formations of Nunatsiavut, once thought to indicate the earliest life on Earth, likely has abiotic origins.Early Life on EarthThe isotopic composition of carbon in iron formations from the Saglek-Hebron Complex in Nunatsiavut (northern Labrador) has been seen as evidence of the earliest traces of life on Earth. But a new study by the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, and University College London suggests otherwise. The study shows that the petrographic, geochemical, and spectroscopic features in the graphite (the crystalline form of carbon) found in the Saglek-Hebron chemical sedimentary rocks are in...

The two Georgia election workers defamed by Rudy Giuliani are seeking to take possession of his multimillion-dollar homes in New York and Florida and some of his valuable personal property, including three Yankees World Series rings.Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, were awarded $146 million in damages last year after a judge found Giuliani liable for repeatedly defaming them by falsely accusing them of election fraud during the 2020 presidential election. They filed action seeking to get ahold of his properties in federal court in New York on Friday. They argue the move is necessary because, "Mr. Giuliani...

SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazil started blocking Elon Musk’s social media platform X, making it largely inaccessible on both the web and through mobile apps early Saturday after the billionaire failed to name a legal representative in the country. The move, which escalates a monthslong feud between Musk and a Brazilian Supreme Court justice over free speech, far-right accounts and misinformation, came after Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the suspension on Friday. To block X, Brazil’s telecommunications regulator, Anatel, told internet service providers to suspend users’ access to the social media platform. As Saturday morning after midnight local...

… Israel-Hamas War Many progressive voters have said Harris needs to end Israel's war against Hamas or cease providing Israel with weapons used in the fighting. But in her interview with Bash, Harris made it clear that she is "unequivocal and unwavering in my commitment to Israel's defense and its ability to defend itself." "That's not going to change," she said. That stance angered some progressives who have voiced their support for the Palestinians, including Representative Rashida Tlaib. "That's right. War crimes and genocide will continue," Tlaib posted on X (formerly Twitter) with a clip of the interview. Journalist Kylie...

Germany’s fractious coalition government has announced a hard-fought compromise on changes to weapons laws and asylum rules designed to prevent Islamist attacks such as last Friday’s mass stabbing that left three people dead. Three days before key state elections in which each of the ruling parties risk heavy losses to the far right, government ministers said the knife rampage allegedly by a Syrian asylum seeker at a street festival in the western city of Solingen had exposed critical weaknesses in the country’s immigration and security policy. “The Solingen attack shook us to our core and we said that we as...

Massachusetts Republicans have submitted a formal request with the state's government for information on the alleged "$1 billion in secret migrant crisis spending" as the Bay State grapples with the migrant crisis. In a release from the state's Republican Party, MassGOP, the group demanded that Gov. Maura Healey's administration provides a detailed cost breakdown of the toll that the migrant crisis has caused for the state's residents. "The Healey-Driscoll Administration has shrouded nearly $1 billion spent in secrecy, leaving Massachusetts residents in the dark," MassGOP chair Amy Carnevale said in a statement. "They have withheld critical information on 600 incidents...

Swedish prosecutors said on Wednesday they would put two men on trial for setting fire to the Quran in a series of incidents last year that prompted outrage in the Muslim world and raised fears of attacks by jihadists. The two men committed "offenses of agitation against an ethnic or national group" on four separate occasions when burning Islam's holy book outside a mosque and in other public places, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement. Sweden's domestic security service raised its terrorism alert level as a result of the burnings, while neighboring Denmark, which also saw a spate...

Jeff Walz's Facebook profile was discovered by @LauraLoomer who found several stunning posts. "The stories I could tell. Not the type of character you want making decisions about your future," he said in a comment. "Haven't spoke to him in 8 years. I'm 100% opposed to all his ideology." "My family wasn't given any notice that he was selected and denied security the days after." All the comments stemmed from a March 30, 2023 post after Trump was convicted where Jeff Walz said: "We've just become a third world banana republic."
