Retired Staff Sgt. Ryan Marti enlisted in the Army National Guard before he even graduated high school, just like his football coach and teacher, future Minnesota governor Tim Walz. Another of Walz’s former students, Lt. Col. Jonathon Jaqua, also joined the Guard after graduating from Mankato West High School in southern Minnesota. Both told CNN that the example Walz set in the classroom and on the football field was influential in their decision to join him as a soldier in the National Guard. “As a teacher, I would say he definitely inspired me,” said Marti, who retired from the Guard...

The US Supreme Court has already ruled that President Biden lacks the authority to cancel student debt. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) also acknowledged "the president of the United States does not have the power for debt forgiveness. That has to be an act of Congress." Nevertheless, the Biden/Harris Administration plans to announce a massive cancellation of $147 billion of student debt between now and election day. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said "let me be clear, President Biden and I are determined to lower costs for student loan borrowers. Technically, we don't have the specific legal authority to...

Some of the ways I feel myself aging are obvious. Half of my hairs are white now. I can’t stay up past midnight. I hate loud restaurants and bars. I feel a deep urge to read long biographies of generals. But other signs of aging are subtler. For example: I am now worried about the US budget deficit. Coming of age as an economics reporter in the 2010s, there was no clearer generational divide than the one about government debt. Older reporters, who came of age during the exploding deficits of the 1980s and the balanced budget battles of the...

On Friday these two ladies on my team at work we're comparing work ethics between the United States and Europe. They have 2 hours siestas everyday! They have free health insurance! They Take2 months off! United States sucks! We need all the workers protections Europe has! You can't get fired in Europe!! I almost lost my #$#$ but I can't tell at work. There is no place like the United States. I'm proud of my country and can stick it. Nothing's perfect.

Germany has frozen its military aid to Ukraine, claiming that a domestic budgetary crisis means it can no longer afford to supply Kyiv with new weapons.Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, told his defence minister this month that there would be no money available for further military aid, according to a new report in the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper.Boris Pistorius, the defence minister, had written up a wish list for €4 billion (£3.4 billion) in additional military supplies to Ukraine, but a letter sent to him by the finance ministry made clear that no extra money would be freed up because of...

A judicial court of the United Methodist Church will take up the issue of clarifying how Alabama churches that want to leave may still be allowed to depart the denomination. The United Methodist Judicial Council has released its docket of 10 items for its fall meeting. Among them are requests from the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, where a group of more than 40 churches that wanted to leave the denomination claim the bishop “ran out the clock” on them, delaying their exit until a rule allowing them to leave and take property with them expired.

(and maybe even saves you one day - don't you want to live forever?) "As Rousas John Rushdooney notes: The key to remedying the world situation is NOT revolution, nor any kind of resistance that works to subvert law and order. The key is regeneration, propagation of the gospel, and the conversion of men and nations to God's laws. This is [true] because evil men cannot produce a good society. The key to renewal is regeneration." A couple of months ago I finally had the chance to watch "Babette's Feast," a beautiful movie about a French cook in Denmark who wins the lottery and spends her entire earnings to throw a lavish feast for the two old spinsters she works for and all their friends. Babette's Feast was an obvious and intentional Eucharistic allegory, and I couldn't help thinking of it while reflecting on the readings for this Sunday (20th of Ordinary Time), which are all closely united by the themes of eating, wisdom, and thankfulness. 1. Our first reading is taken from Proverbs 9:1-6: Wisdom...

Security forces at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland (JBSA) returned fire early Saturday on at least one drive-by suspect who is accused of firing upon the main gate at the JBSA-Chapman Training Annex, a JBSA spokesperson tells Fox News Digital. The officers were fired upon at around 4:30 a.m. by at least one suspect in a sedan and immediately returned fire. There were no injuries reported, and the gate was shut for a number of hours.

WASHINGTON — Vice presidents seeking the top job almost always feel a need to separate themselves from the presidents they’ve served. For Hubert Humphrey, the moment came late in his campaign. In a nationally televised speech on Sept. 30, 1968, he called for a halt to the U.S. bombing of North Vietnam, departing from the Johnson administration’s war policy.George H.W. Bush struggled to establish a distinct identity with voters after eight years as second fiddle to the very popular President Reagan. In his speech to the Republican convention in August 1988, he called for a “kinder, gentler nation” — to which...

Contrary to her clear prior position, Kamala now favors drilling and fracking.Ok, at least to extent that anyone can believe a election-season conversion. But to comprehend how bad this current Administration has been on the issue, recall that shortly after inauguration, Biden called a meeting of the oil companies in which he laid down the law to the effect that the production of fossil fuels was to come to an end. In Wealth of Nations, (1776) Adam Smith discussed the possibility of exactly such a scenario as follows: People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and...

How can you make an assassination attempt funny? The quick answer is that you can’t, and you shouldn’t. Yet, comedian Drew Dunn did it somehow. His routine about the Trump assassination attempt on July 13 is great. It’s not over-the-top—it’s hilarious. Given the subject matter, some might not find it humorous, but I respect comedians who push the limits and go there since not all are successful or good at it. Yet, this one right here is hysterical. There was probably high anxiety in the room when he set up the joke. Dunn said that if the government wanted to...

A majority of voters think news reporters are trying to help far-left Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris into the White House over former President Donald Trump, a new Rasmussen Reports poll found. Half (50 percent) of likely U.S. voters expect most reporters to help Harris ahead of the November presidential election, while 14 percent say they will help Trump. Roughly a quarter (26 percent) believe most reporters will offer unbiased coverage, and 10 percent say they are unsure, the survey found. “Looking ahead at the campaign, 66 percent of Republicans, 34 percent of Democrats, and 50 percent of unaffiliated voters...

We head to Chicago on a wave of euphoria, exuberance, exultation, excitement and even, you might say, ecstasy. It’s going to be a glorious coronation — except that everyone’s mad at one another. Top Democrats are bristling with resentments even as they are about to try to put on a united front at the United Center in the Windy City. A coterie of powerful Democrats maneuvered behind the scenes to push an incumbent president out of the race. It wasn’t exactly “Julius Caesar” in Rehoboth Beach. But it was a tectonic shift and, of course, there were going to be...

According to Democrats, one of the reasons Kamala Harris selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate is his appeal to rural voters in the so-called “blue wall” states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Democrats, with the help of the compliant media, are shamelessly selling the fiction that Walz has rural appeal. A New York Times opinion piece offered this: “What a relief, then, to see emerge on the national stage the Minnesota governor and Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz who embodies the earnest, human rural people who shaped me and the prairie populism that shaped the progressive foundations...

@GlobalAffairs Last night, Alexandre de Moraes threatened our legal representative in Brazil with arrest if we do not comply with his censorship orders. He did so in a secret order, which we share here to expose his actions. Despite our numerous appeals to the Supreme Court not being heard, the Brazilian public not being informed about these orders and our Brazilian staff having no responsibility or control over whether content is blocked on our platform, Moraes has chosen to threaten our staff in Brazil rather than respect the law or due process. As a result, to protect the safety of...

Walz’s connections to China raise questions about possible CCP influence in his decision-making as governor—and should he be elected, as vice president.WASHINGTON—Today, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is launching an investigation into Minnesota Governor Timothy Walz, Kamala Harris’s recently announced vice-presidential running mate, following reports detailing the Governor’s longstanding connections to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) entities and officials. In a letter to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray, Chairman Comer is requesting information, documents, and communications related to the CCP-connected entities and officials Governor Walz has engaged and partnered with, as well as...
