Germany has frozen its military aid to Ukraine, claiming that a domestic budgetary crisis means it can no longer afford to supply Kyiv with new weapons.
Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, told his defence minister this month that there would be no money available for further military aid, according to a new report in the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper.
Boris Pistorius, the defence minister, had written up a wish list for €4 billion (£3.4 billion) in additional military supplies to Ukraine, but a letter sent to him by the finance ministry made clear that no extra money would be freed up because of the need to cut federal spending.
The freeze has already led to a first critical military order falling through.
After a Russian air strike on a Kyiv children’s hospital in July, Diehl Defence, the arms manufacturer, offered to supply an IRIS-T air defence system to help defend the Ukrainian capital’s airspace.

I’m going to predict that Germany will ask Russia to supply them with gas through the Nord Stream line.
They can’t be too happy about the fact it was Ukraine that blew it up and caused such economic hardship...and loss of national wealth.
Wait, isn’t this a fight against an ultimate Russian invasion of Europe? Doesn’t look like the Germans are taking it too seriously.
This has nothing to do with a “budget crisis,” and everything to do with the Germans determining with absolute certainty that the Ukrainians destroyed the Nord Stream pipeline.

And Germany just got up to par for the first time since the Cold War ended, with finally funding 2% of their gross national product for their own defense which is expected of all NATO members. Plenty of other NATO members are still behind.

Russia will be happy to know that Germany is running out of money. Easier to invade Germany now than Ukraine. ;)
But, running out of money is something that’s plaguing Russia too after spending so much in the invasion of Ukraine.
Perhaps that’s the solution that prevents wars: make countries go bankrupt.
After it was divulged publicly by the US MSM that Ukraine blew up the Nordstream pipelines, the Germans can’t be seen aiding Ukraine. Domestic politics won’t allow it.
