A judicial court of the United Methodist Church will take up the issue of clarifying how Alabama churches that want to leave may still be allowed to depart the denomination.
The United Methodist Judicial Council has released its docket of 10 items for its fall meeting.
Among them are requests from the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, where a group of more than 40 churches that wanted to leave the denomination claim the bishop “ran out the clock” on them, delaying their exit until a rule allowing them to leave and take property with them expired.

The moment a "church" becomes organized and begins dedicating its resources to amassing and preserving its resources, it becomes a tool of the devil. Is it surprising that the man who betrayed Jesus was essentially the treasurer of the movement?
Methodist are not Christian
Exactly. If a church ⛪️ doesn’t preach the gospel and good news of Jesus Christ, they’re not a true Christian church ⛪️.
It was easy to disaffiliate from the UMC after this year’s annual conference. I simply left.
UMC: A consistent supporter of almost anything anti-MAGA and/or Marxist oriented?
There must be several such lawsuits going on. I know of another UMC church, not in Alabama that is part of a class action suit against these demons.
When the church began, it was a rural area, now the property is worth millions and the demons want the money.
That's the point. No need to compromise or adapt, just rename your congregation and make the break.
BTW I did the same thing as a episcopalian. I just left that garbage pile. I do much better living with my own values.
As an individual that is easy. But a for whole congregation that would prefer to keep their building, it ismuch more difficult.
“High corruption from a perverted “church” with demons now in charge.”
Organized religion, IOW. Which is why I have always avoided it. It’s a no-brainer.
The claim of the denomination is that the “denomination” built the church properties.
That claim is a half truth as I learned as a young person in the Methodist Church a long time ago.
Sometimes (sometimes) yes the denomination, or its arm via the conference the local church was part of, provided significant help in acquiring property for a local church. But very often a signicant part of the building was done by the local congregation raising a “church building fund” from local congregation resources. So it is wrong that the congrgeations paid nothing in building their own churches.
Secondly, just where did the denomination and/or the conferences get monies to help in raising new/or moving churches? They got it from annual contributions FROM THE CONGREGASTIONS. That includes monies that was paid over the years by congregations that now want to leave the denomination. The suggestion that the congregations that want to depart were not pars of that denomination fund rasing for building and moving local churches is also wrong.
Unfortunately, inspite of the forgoing statements, on the legal side most Methodist Church property is not titled in the name of the local church; giving the denominaiton the legal hook that the local church property is their’s, not the local congregations.
While the denomination has that legal hook it is mising the morality and ethics of the situation, which is “was the denomiation and the denomination alone responsbile for the church buildings and properties”. The answer is NO.
I spell Sodomy with a capital-S because it is the name of a religion.
Well, in spite of your inane and unfounded assertion, we Global Methodists ARE Christian!
UMC believers/followers need to seriously question the reasons they are staying with the UMC.
From what I've seen, that denomination has become homosexual to its core.
Each and every hour of the day, the UMC spits in the face of John Wesley.
Lemme guess....is this a debate regarding “adultery” and other related topics? Yah,I thought so!
Goodbye already left the First Methodist Fag Chirch
Same with me.
Not entirely unfounded
An ex girlfriend’s father was Methodist minister...he told me that he didn’t believe in God.
