ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that her administration has shut down hundreds of unlicensed, illegal cannabis stores. This after her May overhaul at the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), which included the launch of the Cannabis Enforcement Task Force. “How do the legal businesses thrive if the illegal ones are locked out of the market?” Hochul asked the crowd at a press conference Tuesday morning. To that end, she said that the task force has already closed 114 stores. A spokesperson from Hochul’s office confirmed that not all were in New York City. Without these...

Her price controls scheme is a guaranteed way of bringing Soviet-style shortages to the U.S. If you thought the economy couldn't get worse under Joe Biden, wait 'til you get a load of what Kamala Harris has in store for it. According to The Hill: Vice President Harris on Friday will outline a series of economic policy proposals as part of her presidential campaign, including a call for a federal ban on corporate price-gouging. Harris will deliver remarks in North Carolina, a battleground state in November, where her campaign said she will focus on plans to lower the cost of...

Granholm, announced Thursday that low-income New Yorkers are now eligible to receive rebates for energy efficiency upgrades through a federal program called the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) Program, which aims to lower household energy costs. The plan, which stems from the Inflation Reduction Act and is...

CHICAGO — Leaders of four Muslim organizations say they’re expecting upwards of 100,000 demonstrators to take part in a number of protests during the Democratic National Convention. Three main protests are being planned for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, the first and last days of the convention. More than 150 organizations from around the country say they’ve formed a collective to have these protests be large in numbers, and while they represent a number of different interests, they say they will be focused on the Israeli-Palestinian war. The leaders at a Monday morning press event said there will also be meetings...

Swedish health authorities announced the first case of the highly infectious mpox just a day after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global emergency for the outbreaks in Africa. "In this case, a person was infected during a stay in the part of Africa where there is a major outbreak of (the more infectious mpox formerly known as monkeypox)," the Public Health Agency of Sweden announced on Thursday. Magnus Gisslen, a state epidemiologist with the Swedish health agency, said the person had been treated and given "rules of conduct." "The fact that a patient with mpox is treated in...

In a recent Boston Globe column, correspondent Kara Miller wrote that our colleges and universities now “embrac[e] the status quo,” preventing them from responding to new challenges. Her article draws heavily on a 2023 book by Brian Rosenberg, former president of Macalester College, entitled Whatever It Is, I’m Against It: Resistance to Change in Higher Education. Both Miller and Rosenberg write of the difficulty of fostering meaningful change in our colleges and universities. Private businesses in the United States demonstrating such inflexibility would quickly endanger their viability and existence. In today’s world, the intransigence of our institutions of higher education...

The presumptive Democrat nominees have given America nothing of value and stolen everything they have. Kamala’s got one chance to take the presidency, and if Democrat operatives can’t fill out enough mail-in ballots to get her across the finish line, she’ll never be invited back for a second shot. For the next two-plus months, she inherits what Biden called “the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.” This operation catapulted Dementia Joe — who struggled to earn more than single-digit support in previous presidential campaigns — into the White House with the highest number...

@JohnStossel Harris set to propose a ban on price gouging. CNN ArticleSad her 1st big policy announcement is economically illiterate. "Gouging" didn't cause inflation, Biden's spending did. Her naive staff could learn from these @EductionSITC students why “gouging” is good.

Vice Presidential Nominee, Senator JD Vance will deliver remarks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 11:00AM CDT. Since Kamala Harris and Joe Biden took office, Wisconsinites have seen crime, chaos, and tragedy erupt across the state. 2023 marked the deadliest year for Wisconsin police in two decades – with twice as many as the year prior. Last year, Milwaukee was ranked third for violent crimes in the nation. Border Czar, Kamala Harris’ wide-open border has allowed deadly drugs to pour into our country and into Wisconsin’s communities. In 2021, opioid deaths in the state hit a record...

WASHINGTON (AP) — As California’s attorney general, Kamala Harris successfully defended the death penalty in court, despite her past crusade against it. As a new senator, she proposed to abolish cash bail — a reversal from when she chided San Francisco judges for making it “cheaper” to commit crimes by setting bail amounts too low. And now, as vice president and the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris’ campaign insists that she does not want to ban fracking, an oil and gas extraction process, even though that was precisely her position just a few years ago when she first pursued the White...

Military authorities in the eastern Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk on Friday urged civilians to speed up their evacuation because the Russian army is quickly closing in on what has for months been one of Moscow’s key targets. Authorities said in a Telegram post that Russian troops are “advancing at a fast pace. With every passing day there is less and less time to collect personal belongings and leave for safer regions.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had warned on Thursday that Pokrovsk and other nearby towns in the Donetsk region were “facing the most intense Russian assaults.”

WASHINGTON -- Four days before the Democratic National Convention opens in Chicago, the party's proposed platform names the wrong candidate for president. The Democratic platform — essentially a document outlining goals and policy positions the party supports — has not been updated since a draft was released July 13, eight days before President Joe Biden abandoned his reelection bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. The committee in charge of compiling the platform worked for more than a year to draft it, including leaving room for key voices to comment and make changes earlier this summer. But the language set...

The World Health Organization (WHO) is ordering governments worldwide to prepare to implement unprecedented new lockdowns due to the new mutant monkeypox strain, which it claims will transform into a global pandemic. The new strain of the virus is much worse than the one seen in 2022, according to WHO officials. The virus is also reportedly “spreading” without any sexual contact.

The body of Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks has 'gone', a congressman revealed in a report last night accusing the FBI of a 'scorched earth' investigation. Rep. Clay Higgins, a Louisiana Republican who was appointed to Congress' bipartisan task force reviewing the assassination attempt, tried to view Crooks' body on August 5 as part of his own personal inspection. The former police captain said his request to view the body 'caused quite a stir and revealed a disturbing fact'. It was at this point that he learned that the FBI had 'released the body for cremation 10 days' after the...

As Kamala Harris accepts the Democratic nomination for president inside the United Center Aug. 22 before a room full of delegates, donors and party elites, ordinary Chicagoans will be able to join the party at Soldier Field. The Democratic National Convention is coming to Chicago Monday through Aug. 22 to rally the party behind Harris, who was catapulted to the top of the Democratic ticket after President Joe Biden exited the race. But the convention isn’t open to just anyone. The way to get in is to be a delegate or donor, have ties to the Democratic Party or volunteer....
