ALBANY, N.Y. (NEXSTAR) — New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that her administration has shut down hundreds of unlicensed, illegal cannabis stores. This after her May overhaul at the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), which included the launch of the Cannabis Enforcement Task Force.

“How do the legal businesses thrive if the illegal ones are locked out of the market?” Hochul asked the crowd at a press conference Tuesday morning. To that end, she said that the task force has already closed 114 stores. A spokesperson from Hochul’s office confirmed that not all were in New York City.

Without these black market outfits, Hochul highlighted an apparent surge in sales for legal shops. She explained that licensed retailers reported a 27% increase month-over-month from May to June—nearly seven times the previous rate. She also said that the 114 tally stacks with almost 400 other closed, unlicensed retailers.

Hochul of course, makes no correlation between what she said about ILLEGAL businesses and ILLEGAL aliens! She's giving pot dispensary licenses away only to protected class felons.

“How do the legal businesses thrive if the illegal ones are locked out of the market?”

Is it just me or does that sentence make no sense?

The heavily-taxed ‘legal’ weed costs too much.

They should be located on the outskirts of town like cat houses in the old days.

Not always the case today. I hope the illegal stuff puts them out.

The black market will find a way....

It is hilarious that the state now needs Gestapo tactics after “legalizing” marijuana.

I did nazi that coming.

I believe that one of the biggest reasons is that The legal ones are required to video tape their customers both in the parking lot and at the counter. The security software is required to have the capability to create picture and video files of great quality on the fly in case there is a product recall requiring the identification of customers in order to identify them. People who go to those places do not realize that the state knows who they are.

The state still goes Gestapo on moonshiners in poor areas where people cannot afford the alcohol taxes.

Violent enforcement always comes with taxation. Otherwise nobody would pay taxes...

The state stores scan the ID of everyone entering and some people do refuse to enter for that reason.

Many alcohol bars and shops have already done this for a long time. Particularly near colleges where underage drinking is common

Funny thing is in order to qualify for the cannabis licenses, you have to be a former drug felon. I kid you not: https://nypost.com/2022/11/21/new-york-issues-first-recreational-weed-licenses-to-ex-convicts-families/

It makes no sense to me.

It seems she thinks illegal stores are needed to allow legals ones to have a chance, then she talks of shutting down the illegals ones.

That is Kamala-level word salad.

No, it's not just you. It might be easier to understand if you try to think like a liberal who thinks the first responsibility of any business is to buy a license.

Don't do the liberal thinking for long. It really hurts after a while.

“Oh stewardess…”

This is not a good trend. The leftists have dumbed themselves down so much by Biden’s dementia and Kamala’s inarticulation that the DNC realizes they don’t have to articulate or define any plan but just rule the masses.

The commercials up in New York for these Cannabis Farms comparatively look like Napa Valley Vineyards they stretch on for acres and acres... it’s probably AI but you get the point they’re very proud of growing their weed and they intend to collect taxes on every bit of it. Just like liquor.
