At 1:45 p.m. Sunday, President Joe Biden’s senior staff was notified that he was stepping away from the 2024 race. At 1:46 p.m., that message was made public. It was never Biden’s intention to leave the race: Up until he decided to step aside Sunday, he was all in. His campaign was planning fundraisers and events and setting up travel over the next few weeks. But even as Biden was publicly dug in and insisting he was staying in the race, he was quietly reflecting on the disaster of the past few weeks, on the past three years of his...

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in a July 21 interview that President Volodymyr Zelensky will likely need to hold a public referendum before agreeing to any territorial compromises with Russia. The statement follows a proposal by former U.S. President Donald Trump for a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia. As Trump's victory in the Nov. 5 presidential election becomes more likely, efforts are underway to sway him to Ukraine's side and ensure that any potential deal is favorable to Kyiv. "The next few months will be very difficult for Volodymyr Zelensky. Should he continue the war with new deaths and...

CHICAGO—It’s the hottest scam going, one that everyone would be well-advised to keep in mind as they wander the streets of Chicago: fake charity solicitors and “homeless” people commandeer phones and transfer large sums of money to themselves using the victims’ electronic banking apps. We’ve told you about the scam and some people who’ve allegedly been caught running it, usually in tourist areas like the Mag Mile and Millennium Park or nightlife districts like Wrigleyville and the Gold Coast. Just yesterday morning, two men asked a couple for a donation near Crown Fountain at Millennium Park. The victims reluctantly agreed...

The American Cancer Society reports lower overall cancer death rates, yet incidence is increasing for many common cancers, including 6 of the top 10. ... What might be most striking about the rising incidence is that it’s affecting increasingly younger people. Cancer patients are getting younger. Cancer risk increases with age, and people most likely to be diagnosed with cancer are adults age 65 and older. But this trend is beginning to change. People age 65 and older (sometimes referred to as older adults) represent a growing proportion of the overall population, but their numbers are shrinking in the proportion...

Vice President Harris is racing to lock down support for her White House bid, just hours after President Biden announced that he would no longer seek reelection. Harris on Sunday spoke with the chairs of three key coalitions on Capitol Hill: Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Rep. Nanette Barragán (D-Calif.) of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (D-N.H.) of the New Democrat Coalition. All three have backed Harris for the nomination. She also spoke with Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) — ”She is ready to win in Wisconsin!!!” he said on the social platform...

On Sunday, President Biden chose National Ice Cream Day to announce he will not seek re-election for a second term, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to take over as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. Biden said in a letter posted to X that he will “stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.” But if he had any respect for the office he holds, the American people, our republic or himself, Biden would resign from the presidency immediately. No one said campaigning for re-election was easy. The schedule is punishing. A...

Donald Trump may be laying the groundwork for scrambling plans for another presidential debate, suggesting that Fox News, and not ABC News, should be the host. ABC News had been slated to host the debate between Trump and President Joe Biden on Sept. 10. But now that Biden has dropped out of the race, it is unclear whether those plans will happen. Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, but if she wins the nomination, it will be her campaign operation to decide. Trump, meanwhile, posted on Truth Social, “My debate with Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the...

President Joe Biden has dropped out of this year's presidential election race, the White House said Sunday, and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to represent the Democratic party against Republican frontrunner Donald Trump. "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President," Biden said in a message from his verified account on the X social media platform. "And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as...

We just bought a new used car for my wife off of craigslist. Now I am selling her old car on craigslist. Within minutes of posting the ad I got a response. The people were "very interested" but wanted a report on the car from some website. I paid $22.95 for the report and sent it to them. Never heard from them again. Today I got another guy who was "very interested" in the car, but wanted me to get a report from some website for $27. Fool me once, your fault. Fool me twice, my fault.

For now, I’m taking at face value that Biden has withdrawn from the presidential campaign via a tweeted-out letter, with the promise of a live statement to follow. However, a surprising number of people believe that, considering how consequential Biden’s statement is, a tweeted-out letter suggests a coup rather than a voluntary resignation.

Candidates for President, and any other elected office, should have to face the same qualifications to be on the ballot. Party affiliation should have nothing to do with ballot access. Let me put it this way: Donald Trump, Robert Kennedy Jr., and a few other candidates have made it onto the ballots in their respective states. Harris has not done this for President. She should not be automatically considered for the post unless she has jumped through the same hoops as the other candidates have had to pass. If this means that the Democrats can't field a candidate this election,...
