MILWAUKEE — In the hours after a would-be assassin fired a bullet through former President Donald Trump’s ear, Panfilo DiCenzo, a 40-year-old Democratic voter from Pittsburgh, drew a simple conclusion about the political effect of the attack: “It definitely is good for Trump.” At a time when President Joe Biden has been struggling to shore up support with fellow Democrats following a miserable June debate performance and shaky cleanup effort, some professional Democratic political operatives said Saturday’s shooting will end up sealing the incumbent’s electoral fate. “We’re so beyond f---ed,” one longtime Democratic insider said, noting that the image of...

Nikki Haley, Donald Trump's final major challenger in the presidential primary, will now speak at the GOP convention, a person familiar with the decision said. Haley wasn't included in the original program, and a representative for Haley previously said she wasn't invited. But with Saturday's shooting, Republicans have called for unity and the image of her attending the convention will buttress that, the person said. A spokeswoman for Haley didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday.

Cardinal Hollerich: ‘If women do not feel comfortable in the church, we have failed.’The working document, or instrumentum laboris, for next October’s meeting of the Synod of Bishops is “taking up again” the teaching of the Second Vatican Council on the church by focusing on the missionary responsibility of all the baptized in the synodal church. That is what Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, the relator general for next October’s synod, said in this exclusive interview with America’s Vatican correspondent. He emphasized the importance of the working document’s attention to affirming and promoting the role of women in the church in the 21st...

The Trump campaign is seeing a new surge in support following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump Saturday in western Pennsylvania. Adviser and pollster John McLaughlin told Secrets that the shooting is already increasing the enthusiasm at the Republican National Convention that opens tomorrow in Milwaukee. What’s more, he said, that is translating into more people registering to vote for the former president and more Republicans voting early. As he made his way to Milwaukee, McLaughlin told us, “The Republican convention will be very energized, and that increased enthusiasm will translate into even more supporters registering to vote,...

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) said Sunday Sen. JD Vance’s (R-Ohio) response to the attempted assassination of former President Trump should “disqualify” him from serving as vice president. Vance, a contender for Trump’s choice of running mate, said in a social media post on Saturday that the shooting was “not some isolated incident” and suggested President Biden’s campaign was, at least in part, at fault. “The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs,” Vance said on the social platform X. “That rhetoric led directly to...

Captain Sam Brown is running for the U.S. Senate from Nevada. I met Sam recently. His face was burned beyond recognition. A roadside bomb in Afghanistan had detonated under the fuel tank of his Humvee. At first, his badly scarred face unsettled me. But after a few minutes in his company, his face softened, and I caught glimpses of the very handsome man he once was and the kind-hearted man he still is. I asked myself what had motivated him to make such a sacrifice. It was soon clear: God, family, and country. I then asked myself a more difficult...

*** The latest poll by Remington Research Group, conducted for conservative news site The Daily Wire, showed that Lake and Gallego are neck-and-neck on 47 per cent each ahead of November's election. This new poll, Remington's first for the 2024 Arizona Senate Race, suggests a remarkable turnaround for Lake, who has trailed Gallego in every state poll since February, including one in May where she was 13 points adrift. Newsweek has contacted Kari Lake and Ruben Gallego for comment. The new poll, which surveyed 638 likely voters in Arizona between June 29 and July 1, was backed by a partisan...

WASHINGTON — The shots rang out at 6:10 p.m. Former President Donald Trump clutched his right ear as blood spurted out, then ducked for cover as supporters screamed and Secret Service agents raced to surround and protect him. Within moments, someone shouted “shooter down,” and the agents, agitated but in control, began moving Trump offstage to safety. “Wait, wait, wait, wait,” he called out, then made a point of pumping his fist at the crowd and seemed to defiantly shout, “Fight! Fight!” The crowd roared and responded with chants of “USA! USA!” For the first time in more than four...

Here's a wild way for Democrats to try to stop Trump: Vote in Republican primaries In many states, rules allow them to cast ballots for an alternative — like Nikki Haley Troy Denning has made a living imagining fantastical plots as a prolific writer of science fiction with numerous Star Wars tomes under his belt. He's now envisioning a real-life storyline about a disturbance in the electoral force, in which millions of Democrats vote in Republican primary contests in a mission to stop Donald Trump. Denning is himself grappling with whether to drift to the other side. To join a...

Local police encountered attempted-assassin Thomas Crooks just moments before he tried to kill former president Donald Trump — but failed to stop the gunman despite the clear threat, according to a report. After rallygoers spotted Crooks on the roof of a manufacturing plant just 130 yards from the stage where Trump was speaking just after 6 p.m. Tuesday, police were notified and one officer climbed a ladder to investigate, law enforcement officials said on the condition of anonymity. There the officer encountered Crooks, who pointed his AR-style rifle at them. The officer then backed down the ladder, and Crooks immediately took...

The front page of the Washington Post featured a story titled “Biden trains fire on Trump” on Saturday, the day of an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. The former president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., shared an image of the newspaper on Sunday with the date, July 13, 2024, clearly visible in the top corner: The report was about President Joe Biden’s (D) “fiery rally” in Michigan where the report said Biden claimed Trump was “unfit” to serve as president again

I am noticing a lot of rhetoric from all sides indicating that the events of yesterday are somehow a decisive foreshadowing of an inevitable upturn in Trump’s momentum for November. Could not be further from the truth. The Left, the establishment, still has too many tools at their disposal, and entrenched interests/power on their side to shift things at their convenience. The narrative surrounding yesterday’s events can work in their favor as they are already pinning the shooter as a card carrying Republican-type and his weapon possession as a product of the 2nd Amendment. Not only that, but there remain...
